THE FINE PRINT // 

All HomeState operational efforts are an extension of our core values and mission. The Director of Restaurant Operations (DRO) will report to the Vice President and should inspire and embody HomeState’s culture, mission, and core values. The DRO is expected to operate at a high level of excellence, setting the standard for all those who report to them. This position requires multi-unit experience, preferably within a growing company and a deep understanding of financial reporting. The DRO will develop store level managers to ensure they successfully meet goals in many areas including, but not limited to budgets, hiring, training, scheduling, and adherence to procedures for compliance in all matters including sanitation and safety. Most importantly, a Director of Restaurant Operations will lead and inspire others to create a nurturing restaurant environment where bold ideas flourish.

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY//

Leadership & Team Development

  • Serve as a mentor in all facets of restaurant operations to ensure the highest level of hospitality. 
  • Inspires, encourages and develops others to rise to the occasion at every opportunity. 
  • Builds trust and psychological safety on teams to enlist others to think outside of the box and exceed guest expectations. 
  • Practices a high level of integrity, self-awareness, courage, confidence, respect, empathy, and decision making. 
  • Motivates and inspires others to contribute their best with unwavering enthusiasm. 
  • Actively training and identify HomeState’s next level of operational leaders providing a solid foundation for succession planning and growth.
  • Provides specific, constructive, and positive feedback. Creates opportunities for team members to expand their skills. 
  • Engages in the highest level of communication by being a present and effective communicator. Ensures the needs of others are met through timely and appropriate responses. 

Business Acumen

  • Design and implement business strategies, plans and procedures and set comprehensive goals for performance and growth
  • Support new restaurant openings (NRO) in existing or new markets
  • Monitor and negotiate cost of goods
  • Work with executive leadership to compile operating budgets for restaurants
  • Oversee daily operations of the restaurants and work in partnership with other departments (IT, Marketing, Accounting, and HR) to create stability within restaurants
  • Drive the company’s performance to exceed expectations and cultivate guest loyalty
  • Embody competency of HomeState’s purpose, core values, mission, strategy, vision, and operations
  • Monitor restaurant financial performance and introduce tactical initiatives to address opportunities for improvement
  • Compile monthly reporting summaries for ownership and general managers to identify and develop paths towards progress and celebrate successes
  • Implement restaurant initiatives in partnership with HomeState’s Leadership Team
  • Coordinate inter-store communication and support
  • Develop, update, and distribute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) upon approval from ownership
  • Oversee the company's compliance with current health, labor and safety laws
  • Participate in regular meetings with executive leadership to report on performance, goals and progress or restaurant operations
  • Ensure product and quality standards by developing, implementing, and maintaining a high level of operational excellence

Human Resources

  • Assists with development and implementation of various human resources initiatives in partnership with the HR Department
  • Complete performance reviews of regional managers, general managers and audit annual reviews for store team members
  • Work with VP to design and update compensation structure at least annually, including bonus reporting
  • Modify job descriptions as necessary with the Director of Human Resources
  • Recommend, develop and implement personnel policies and procedures, annual re-evaluation of policies for cost-effectiveness
  • Oversee workers compensation incidents, recovery and return to work procedures with store management and HR department
  • Establish and maintain department records and reports
  • Participate in progressive counseling as needed and mentor managers to coach and counsel team members in accordance with HomeState’s guidelines
  • Evaluate reports, decisions and results of initiatives in relation to established goals. Recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in overall health, safety and wellness of the team
  • Ensure team performance through goal-setting, coaching, and regular constructive feedback
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in a Director Operations role a multi-unit restaurant group
  • Experience scaling an organization is strongly preferred
  • Proactive, forward thinking problem solving skills required
  • Experience with HRIS, project management, and accounting software a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication, fluent or conversational Spanish is a plus
  • Must maintain a clean driving record and valid driver’s license 
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time (6 or more hours per shift)
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with weekend availability and with an occasional sixth day required
  • Must be able to to travel between HomeState locations as needed via personal transportation and ability to track mileage for reimbursement
