In 2013, native Texan Briana Valdez opened HomeState, an ode to Texas cuisine in Los Angeles with the mission of evoking community and creating a home for everyone, no matter where they are from. HomeState represents the integrity, history, and culture of Briana’s roots.

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Hospitality & Leadership

  • Ensure smooth day to day operations of a designated restaurant. Foster and promote HomeState’s culture and mission while upholding service standards.
  • Monitor, measure, and correct guest incidents with warmth, kindness and authenticity. Coach, guide, develop and support your team to provide exceptional guest experience.
  • Resolve all guests issues at the restaurant level, on social media in coordination with the marketing team and through any other company communication channels.
  • Practice integrity, self-awareness, courage, confidence, respect, empathy, and decision making. Motivates and inspires others with enthusiasm.
  • Fully understand and exhibit the HomeState culture, embodying core values, vision and mission within our four walls and in the community.

Team Development

  • Lead team development and succession planning. Provide continuous empathetic coaching, establish performance expectations and conduct performance reviews.
  • Responsible for hiring, including interviewing, training and progressive counseling.
  • Manage team environment and provide timely response to team needs.
  • Handle payroll and scheduling. Anticipate schedule changes based on need and ensure all staffing levels are met while meeting budget. Manage attendance, call outs and tardiness.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with all relevant policies, EEO, labor, HR, wage and food safety laws and regulations.
  • Inspire and encourages others to succeed. Coordinate team incentives.

Operations and Sales

  • Execute strategies to meet financial goals such as but not limited to revenue, labor cost, cost of goods (COGS), etc.
  • Be knowledgeable with troubleshooting restaurant equipment issues to avoid the use of external technicians when necessary.
  • Comply and enforce DOH regulations and HomeState GMP sanitation standards when performing cleaning tasks, preparing food, and serving beverages. Follow and lead uniform and hygiene standards.
  • Attend and lead manager meetings and participate in routine leadership calls. Actively engage in the agenda and transition action items to positively impact performance and culture.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years restaurant general manager role experience preferred.
  • Personable and enjoys working with guests and leading a diverse team.
  • Passion for food, hospitality, and providing an exemplary guest experience.
  • Proficient in a variety of technology systems including Google suite (email, calendar, documents and sheets) and ability to learn and adapt to new systems quickly
  • Availability to work a minimum of five days per week. Extended hours and/or a sixth day may occasionally be required. Weekends, day shifts and evening shifts may be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time (6 or more hours per shift)
  • Ability to bend, crouch, push/pull and lift/lower objects ranging 20-50 lbs.
  • Must possess dexterity to to reach for, grasp and manipulate objects
  • Ability to regularly move around the restaurant with full range of mobility
  • Ability to withstand occasional hot/cold exposure
  • Must be comfortable repeating the frequent motions
  • Must be able to bend and reach overhead often
  • May be required to work in tight spaces
  • Must maintain near constant communication with multiple people
  • Close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision is required
  • Must be able to sit, squat and kneel occasionally
  • Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
