The State of New Hampshire, Labor, Workers Compensation Division has a full time vacancy for Claims Assistant.
Summary:
To perform diverse duties while assisting the staff of the Department’s operating divisions and associated programs.
Responsibilities:
Researches and responds to correspondence, phone requests, or in-person visits from department staff, general public, leasing companies, and insurance carriers regarding the provisions of the law and administrative rules that relate to workers’ compensation claims and insurance coverage.
Uses data management systems to request workers compensation coverage, confirm coverage changes, and correct inconsistencies and errors on a variety of documents filed from claimants, employers, workers’ compensation insurance carriers, or representing parties to ensure compliance.
Performs follow up on outstanding requests for compliance, researches and refers for further review and/or action as needed.
Notifies employers of non-compliance with workers’ compensation laws and rules. Schedules meetings and/or formal coverage hearings with employers, to be held at the Department of Labor, to explain obligations and interpret workers’ compensation and rules. Researches, explains, and presents information regarding employers’ workers’ compensation claims and coverage.
Calculates fines and makes recommendation on civil penalty action against employers and insurance companies for violation of workers’ compensation requirements and laws, follows up on overdue invoice payments, and facilitates communication with the business office about invoices.
Maintains and updates records related to the various correspondence, email, phone calls, or in-person visits received from and sent to the general public, leasing companies, employers, and insurance carriers in the database management system and document organization program.
Reviews, verifies, and processes information from the public to determine eligibility for agency services.
Updates staff on new policies, procedures, and EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), assigns projects, and rejects unsatisfactory work relating to processing paper correspondence.
Works closely with the Information Technology staff to develop and test new programs as system changes are made. Helps in the development, testing, and processing of the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) program.
Serves back-up duties to all workers’ compensation units as determined by supervisor.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree
36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree
54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years of experience in a responsible clerical position, including experience in workers’ compensation or general insurance coverage.
License/Certification: None required.
