As an early member of the team, the Head of Sales will help drive our customer acquisition and retention strategies. Success will require the ability to balance the success of the team with your own strategic partnership goals. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the business development, underwriting, data, engineering teams, partners, clients, and other key stakeholders in order to build a world-class sales function.

YOU WILL

  • Implement sales and engagement best practices that keep Counterpart top of mind and deepen our broker relationships, ensuring all submissions are sent to Counterpart. 
  • Expand our base of brokers by appointing new brokers, qualifying and prioritizing partners with significant production potential.
  • Drive strategic relationships with top management liability and professional liability brokers.
  • Expand our team of self-driven business development experts who align with our performance based culture.
  • Provide regular training, coaching, constructive feedback, and professional development opportunities to team members, empowering them to achieve their full potential.
  • Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasting process with key stakeholders, fine-tuning our strategy to meet and exceed these objectives.
  • Continuously assess and refine our channel partnership strategy for optimal performance.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our sales infrastructure supports our growth ambitions, adapting to changing market conditions and business needs.
  • Champion the use of technology and data analytics to streamline sales operations, improve customer engagement, and enhance overall sales productivity.

YOU HAVE

  • 10 years of experience leading Business Development / Sales at a fast-growing insurance organization.
  • Familiarity with management liability and professional liability insurance products and distribution
  • Strong Distribution ties to the broker community, primarily in the wholesale space
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills, including the ability to work with a diverse team and drive change across functional and business boundaries.
  • A proven track record of driving results, self-motivated, proactive and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment & accepting responsibility
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
  • Confident presenting to key internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Experience working in marketing, sales, and / or operations in highly dynamic business environments.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH:

  • Tanner Hackett, CEO & Founder: Having founded two other major startups, including Button and Lazada, Tanner now spends his time focused on mental health through his philanthropy, Openminded.org, in addition to reading, surfing, yoga, and enjoying the outdoors. 
  • Mike Levins, Head of Insurance: Mike previously was the Head of Broker Relations and US MGA Operations at Hiscox. Mike oversaw the Midwest region with ~20 underwriters offering 13 different product lines, the primary lines being management liability, professional liability, and cyber/technology. His extensive insurance career has afforded Mike strong relationships across hundreds of retail and wholesale brokers. Mike received his BS from Marquette University and MBA from Benedictine University.
  • Chris Dinehart, Sales Operations Lead: Chris has led Sales Operations teams for growing businesses for over 10 years, including leading Finicity to an $825m transaction with Mastercard. Chris has scaled Sales Operations across a variety of industries using cutting edge technologies and sales enablement processes to maximize sales performance.
  • Andrew Kim, Sr. Business Development Manager: Andrew previously worked in sales for a few top brokerage firms such as Marsh McLennan and HUB in production, which provided a wealth of experience and skills in the insurance industry.
  • Tobias Schuler, Head of Data: After becoming a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and working as a consultant actuary at EY for several years, Tobias went on to drive the actuarial data & systems teams at QBE. He further leveraged his deep insurance and technical expertise at Munich Re Digital Partners in North America, where he headed data and analytics and oversaw the data infrastructure behind some of their largest programs.
