POSITION DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEW

Title: Human Resources Generalist

Reports To: Deputy of Human Resources

Schedule: Mon-Fri, Daytime Flexible

Compensation: $65,000 - $70,000

Job Classification: Full Time, Salaried Exempt

The Human Resource Generalist (HRG) is a critical member of the Human Resources Team. This role will be 50% employee relations and 50% benefits administration. Competitive candidates will have a passion for our mission and a deep knowledge of human resources management and an understanding of labor laws both state and federal. The HRG will have high action orientation, and proactively look ahead anticipating needs and such needs can creatively be solved. They will have a sense of urgency and responsiveness. They will proactively work with talent leaders to ensure Agate's team members have everything they need to provide the best level service to clients and other Agate Community Members through the employee life cycle from talent acquisition, onboarding, performance coaching, learning and development, absence management, benefits administration and offboarding. The HRG will work with vendors and other Agate partners to ensure a high level of service. The HRG will maintain and organize employee files and other employment records. In partnership with other members of the Agate Team, the Generalist will review employee feedback, and strategize about HR programs to enhance workplace culture and employee engagement. The Generalist will also ensure that employee data and performance details are maintained in the HRIS system. The Generalist will also help in preparing annual compliance reports at both the state and federal levels.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) will perform routine tasks required to administer and execute broad human resource programs and functions, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Lead new hire orientation and administer the on-boarding process for all new hires and non-paid staff.
  • Monitor the agency onboarding process - including ensuring all applicable background and motor vehicle records checks are completed to ensure a smooth onboarding process. Follow up as necessary. Implement new hire orientation programs.
  • Responds to employee inquiries by phone, email or via our HRIS system. Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as PTO, medical/personal leave and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Prioritize requests and responds in a timely manner, ensuring that issues and concerns are handled accurately and respectfully. Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and talent leaders, referring to and escalating complex and/or sensitive matters when needed.
  • Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resources federal and state requirements, assisting in investigations, maintaining employee records. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Coordinates the benefits open enrollment process for all staff, working with Talent Acquisition Specialist, Training and Organizational Development Manager, and Deputy Director of Human Resources.
  • Administer employee benefits, including enrollments and terminations.
  • Reconciles Benefits invoices monthly.
  • Process and keep records of personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, leaves, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  • Act as the primary gatekeeper for the agency's HRIS System. Maintaining physical and digital files for employees and their documents, benefits and attendance records. Work with HR and Finance Team to maintain personnel files for the employees, make sure the appropriate documents are signed and placed in the employee files.
  • Handle employment verifications of employment for the agency.
  • May assist in the Talent Acquisition process by conducting interviews and reviewing resumes to select employees to fill vacant positions across the agency. Assists with recruiting, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Collaborates with Talent and Organizational Development Manager to administer the performance review process. Ensures agency leaders are complying with the performance management process and timeline.
  • Assist in employee retention and recognition programs and activities.
  • May attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Coordinates the agency's personnel-related compliance programs, including but not limited to: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Veteran's Preference, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Pay Equity, Workers Compensation, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) STD, FMLA, LTD to ensure leaves are administered in compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Provide analysis of benefits options as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, to ensure the agency HR function is meeting the needs of staff, talent leaders and compliance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • At least five years of human resource management experience in a similar role.
  • Strong written and oral communicator with excellent presentation and organizational skills.
  • Proven high standards of performance, eager to pursue aggressive goals, and works hard and smart to achieve them. Must be persistent, decisive, resourceful, proactive, and results oriented.
  • Capable of managing difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work well in teams and independently must collaborate and build consensus internally and externally.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Commitment to mission, values and Trauma Informed Care principles.
  • Sensitivity to and experience working with a diverse staff.
  • Integrity and resolve to maintain ethical and professional standards.
  • Ability to build, manage and sustain constructive relationships with management staff, peers, colleagues and consumers across divisions and departments and with external Agate Community Members.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and pass a DHS NetStudy 2.0 background study and a driving record check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a union environment is a plus.

REFERRAL BONUS PROGRAM
