Director of Human Resources

Job Summary: The Director of Human Resources (HR) is a strategic leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization's human resources functions. This is both a strategic and hands-on role, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and programs. Because HR is critical to helping to shape our company’s future as we focus on growth and conduct M&A, the role requires regular engagement with leadership team while also providing superior internal customer support. The Director of HR will manage a team of dedicated HR professionals supporting a range of Federal Government services activities throughout the United States and abroad.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic HR Leadership:
  • Develop and communicate the organization's HR vision, mission, and strategic objectives in alignment with the overall business strategy which is heavily focused on growth.
  • Provide strategic guidance and leadership to the HR team in the development and implementation of HR programs and initiatives.
  • Participates in business planning and strategic direction with Leadership Team including organizational structure; retention; workforce planning; succession planning, etc.
  • Explore and implement creative solutions that balance the needs of the business in concert with employee interests.
  • Employee Relations and Engagement:
  • While this role leads a small team of HR professionals, a true hands-on approach is required to successfully monitor the "pulse" of the employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive work environment through effective employee relations practices, conflict resolution, and other initiatives.
  • Develop and implement employee engagement programs, recognition initiatives, and feedback mechanisms to foster a culture of high performance and employee satisfaction.
  • Manages grievances and violations, partnering with Legal as appropriate.
  • Performance Management:
  • Lead the performance management process, including goal setting, performance evaluations, feedback, and development planning.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on performance improvement strategies and career development opportunities.
  • Compensation and Benefits Administration:
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and administration of compensation and benefits programs, including salary structures, incentive plans, health and wellness benefits, and retirement plans.
  • Monitor market trends and benchmarking data to ensure competitive and equitable compensation practices.
  • HR Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including equal employment opportunity (EEO), affirmative action, and labor standards.
  • Manage HR-related risks and liabilities through effective policies, procedures, and documentation practices.
  • HR Information Systems (HRIS) Management:
  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of HRIS and other HR technology systems to streamline HR processes and enhance data management capabilities.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and confidentiality of HR information and systems.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Leads cross-functional projects of continuous improvement of operational processes.
  • Leads people practice planning for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures as needed, including integration preparation and execution.
  • Train HR staff in issues and processes and delegate matters as appropriate
  • Manages the budget and other financial measures of the HR department.
  • Perform other tasked as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
  • 10 years of demonstrated experience as an HR practitioner with progressive HR generalist or business partner responsibilities, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience specific to the government contracting industry.
  • Professional certification such as Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) preferred.
  • Demonstrated background in employee relations including investigations and corrective practices, performance management, training and development, and staffing and retention required.
  • Well versed in federal, multistate and local laws and regulations affecting HR, labor, and employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a knowledgeable resource to the executive and management team.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.
  • Experience supporting Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) due diligence and integration activities.
  • Proficient HRIS database management to include implementation, design and maintenance (preferably experience with UKG).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced ever-changing environment while successfully managing the day-to-day responsibilities of the role and department.
  • Ability to plan, execute and deliver on projects in a timely manner, with the added ability to multi-task on varying projects and initiatives.
  • Willing to take initiative and work independently when needed to meet department and corporate objectives.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a pre-employment background investigation.
