Los Alamos National Laboratory is Hiring a W-2 Deputy Group Leader (R&D Manager 3) with Security Clearance - Now Hiring Near Los Alamos, NM

What You Will Do The W76 Systems Engineering Group (W-2) is looking to fill a Deputy Group Leader (R&D Manager 3) position. W-2 is responsible for technical and programmatic oversight of matters pertaining to the W76 Nuclear Weapon Systems and UK Trident Program. The W-2 Deputy Group Leader will assist the W76 Warhead Manager with their role as System Manager, Lead Engineer, Program Manager, and Line Manager by supporting all Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) communities, as needed. In this capacity, the Deputy Group Leader will help to ensure War Reserve (WR) production, surveillance, joint test assembly (JTA) production and testing, technical basis execution, significant finding investigation (SFI) closures and WR warhead sustainability are adhered to in support of the annual assessments of the warhead. In support of the Warhead Manager's duties, the Deputy Group Leader will be expected to provide engineering expertise to assist when appropriate in resolving complex technical and programmatic issues associated with the warhead. The Deputy Group Leader will collaborate with the Group Leader in planning, organizing, and managing technical, programmatic and line management activities within the group as well as in nurturing a healthy work environment that encourages learning, teaming, creating mutual respect, and delivering excellence at all levels. What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Weapons Experience Working knowledge of nuclear weapons and the U.S. stockpile. Demonstrated direct experience in one or more of the following areas: nuclear weapon design, development, qualification, certification, assembly/production, and surveillance. Demonstrated experience with highly complex, system-level integrated experiments preferably involving high explosives. Systems Engineering/Program Management Demonstrated experience with the engineering authorization system and document management systems (e.g., PDM Link). Familiarization with project management principles (i.e. scheduling and budget management) along with a demonstrated ability to meet schedules and deliverables for multiple concurrent projects with a wide range of priorities. Demonstrated experience in program development and strategic planning. Management/Communication Demonstrated successful leadership skills and a demonstrated record of developing and fostering successful cross-organizational teams to solve complex problems. Demonstrated experience with conflict resolution. Demonstrated experience successfully mentoring newer staff members, Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of Laboratory personnel and internal and external customers. Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Desired Qualifications: * Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
* Master of Science or PhD degree in mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering field, is preferred.
* Familiar with issues and challenges related to the W76 warhead.
* An understanding of nuclear physics principles.
* Familiar with Integrated Surety Architecture (ISA) principles.
* Demonstrated experience interacting with one or more NSE Production Agency. Experience interacting with and presenting to upper level LANL management, NNSA and US Navy (or comparable) customers.
* Experience working directly with NNSA and communicating budget requirements, scope requirements, milestone reporting, and program review processes and deliverables.
* Knowledge of Navy Project Officer's Group structure, subcommittees and functions. Knowledge of NNSA structure.
* Experience in successful personnel and resource management.
* Derivative Classifier (DC) experience.
* An Active Q clearance or the ability to obtain an Active Q clearance.
Work Environment: Domestic/foreign travel Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM. Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad. *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer. Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status. Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
