What You Will Do The Sigma Division Operations group is looking for a customer focused, detailed oriented individual to provide programmatic Materials Control & Accountability (MC&A) support for nuclear material operations within the Sigma Complex (Sigma Building, 3 Transportainers, Beryllium Technology Facility (BTF), Thorium Bunker & Butler Building). This individual will provide full time support to the Sigma-Foundry Team as a deployed resource from the SIGMA-Operations Group. This is a highly complex accounting, and technical position for nuclear material operations. This position comes with extensive responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of nuclear material transactions, and nuclear material processing within the Sigma Complex. This position covers a broad range of transactional activities that are crucial to accountability, security, safety, shipping, tracking, quality and successful delivery of product to a broad customer base. This position will be filled at the Research Technologist 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. The selected candidate will need to be a good problem-solver that can identify issues/obstacles and resolve them tactfully with minimal supervision. Reporting to the Operations Group Leader, under the day-to-day direction of the Sigma Accountability Program Manager (PM) and Foundry Team Leader, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following: Research Technologist 1 ($81,700 - $133,100) * Become an MC&A Custodian for Sigma Division (Sigma-1 & Sigma-2).
* Become a trained TID Custodian. Must understand the roles and responsibilities for TID usage.
* Conduct the LANMAS transactions in support of Sigma Operations. Process a large volume of nuclear material transactions in LANMAS annually which includes: moves, splits, mixes, transfers, shipments, containerization, TID's, and In-Transit Shipments.
* Responsible for the day-to-day transactions in LANMAS/LAMCAS on the classified system.
* Provide support for shipments as needed within the Foundry.
* Responsible for the completion of a high volume of Item Adjustments (IA's) annually. This includes both basic and complex IA's for the Foundry Team.
* Must perform Material at Risk (MAR) and Sum of Fractions (SOF) Calculations for incoming and outgoing shipments.
* Understand the basics of Nuclear Criticality & Safety Basis, with some involvement in nuclear material walk-downs, and attend meetings.
* Work in rad areas to perform nuclear material transactions/processes with process owner(s), team leader(s), manager(s) and customer(s).
* Observe nuclear material operations and provide guidance to sigma personnel as needed.
* Work in both unclassified and classified environments.
* Conduct and/or coordinate measurements (Balance, Gamma Measurements, Neutron Measurements & Chemistry Analysis) needed for nuclear material.
* Responsible for supporting Sigma's MC&A (Nuclear Material) Annual Inventory. This inventory entails the accountability of ~2000 items.
* Provide ongoing communications with line management on work status, deliverables and commitments.
* Responsible for assisting with Sigma MC&A Procedures, Fact Sheet, PMFD's and IWD's.
* Work and train under the direction of the Sigma Accountability Program Manager or designee for at least 6 months for all nuclear material processing, transactions and operations.
* Responsible for the oversight of nuclear material organization, inventory, and storage for the Sigma-Foundry. Research Technologist 2 ($90,000 - $147,100) In addition to the duties outlined above, the Research Technologist 2 will: * Possess advanced level knowledge with LANMAS database system.
* Possess advanced level knowledge with Foundry Operations.
* Provide guidance and mentoring to Sigma personnel regarding MC&A and/or LANMAS/LAMCAS operations.
* Contribute to the MC&A waste effort for foundry operations and/or sigma complex.
What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: * Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions, procedures, plans, emergency, safeguards, and security procedures.
* Possess high attention to detail with accuracy and strong organizational skills.
* Interest in working with radiological material, hazardous material, and/or classified matter management, accountability (MC&A), construction, coordination, packaging, transportation, DOT regulations, storage and disposition of waste.
* Demonstrated experience in interacting in a customer service-related setting and work cohesively in a team environment to meet high demand schedule deliverables.
* Knowledge of computer systems and applications including Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Demonstrated skill in complex accounting, conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions.
* Q clearance required
Desired Qualifications: * Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear materials control and accountability, including the use of LANMAS/LAMCAS software.
* Knowledge of LANL specific applications (CPIMS, LANMAS, or other, etc.)
* Knowledge and experience in nuclear materials accountability practices and accounting systems including associated tracking and documentation requirements, policies, procedures, etc.
* Experience in producing written documentation requiring a high level of attention to detail.
* Experience dealing and working with audits and assessments on/or related to P821-2, Management of Classified Parts.
Education/experience at the lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Education/experience at the higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM. Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
