What You Will Do The Engineering Services Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions that enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission. This position is within the Engineering Services Division Office (ES-DO). PD Groups are responsible for implementing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program at Los Alamos National Laboratory in support of systems, structure and component modifications and new installations. This position supports nuclear, accelerator or non-nuclear facilities across 38 square miles of the Laboratory. Note: This position will be filled at either the Nuclear Facilities Engineer (NFE) 1 / NFE 2 level depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. Electrical Design Engineer Level 1 ($90,000 - $147,100) As an Electrical design engineer with Engineering Services, you will function as part of a design agency serving one of three Facilities Operations Directorates (FODs). You will concurrently work on multiple design teams shaping LANL's facilities and infrastructure to serve the needs of a growing and changing Laboratory. Your teams will provide engineering consulting services typical of any or all project phases: scoping; design; construction; commissioning; operation. Electrical Design Engineer Level 2 ($99,200 - $164,100): In addition to what was outlined at the level 1 position, as an NFE 2 you will have the opportunity to: * Develop skills to independently run all electrical engineering facets of a project from scoping to construction.
* Foster relationships with project stakeholders and customers as a representative of Engineering Services.
* Facilitate technical growth of the electrical design team.
What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: * Ability to prepare calculations, apply engineering methods, and apply technology aided engineering tools to facility and operations-based engineering challenges.
* Ability to support timely and collaborative construction execution. This includes timely review of submittals, requests for information (RFIs), design changes, non-conformance issues, validation of commissioning documentation and produce accurate as-built documents.
* Basic knowledge of engineering principles, codes, and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, etc.)
* Working experience in power system engineering, including fault current analysis, voltage drop calculations, protection coordination studies, incident energy studies and equipment sizing.
Additional Job Requirements for Electrical Engineer 2: In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires: * Demonstrated design experience in commercial and/or government sectors.
* Demonstrated experience in the development of engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, test and inspection plans (TIPs), and statements of special inspection (SSIs).
* Demonstrated experience in the scoping of complex projects to produce an estimate of engineering costs for both design and construction activities.
Education/Experience for Nuclear Facilities Electrical Engineer 1: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and 2 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Education/Experience for Nuclear Facilities Electrical Engineer 2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 3 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job. DOE 426.2 requires a BS degree, 2 years job related experience and 1 year non-reactor nuclear experience for technical support personnel who perform work independently at nuclear facilities. The Nuclear Facility Engineer 2 position would be expected to be able to obtain the nuclear experience on the job if they do not have it upon hire before becoming fully-qualified. Desired Qualifications: * For NFE 2: Current registration as a professional engineer (any US State).
* Design experience in nuclear, accelerator or industrial facility operations.
* Master's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
* Experienced in producing designs utilizing AutoCAD and/or Revit tools and work processes.
* Knowledge of DOE, LANL Engineering Standards, and Conduct of Engineering principles and procedures.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad. *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information. 426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
