What You Will Do The Radiation Protection Division has a need for operational Health Physicists (HPs) supporting LANL programs and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in the Technical Area (TA) 55 deployed group. Reporting to the RP-TA55 team leader, the operational HP is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the Radiation Protection (RP) program while supporting work execution. Executing all manners of operational health physics/radiation safety, under the direction of experienced Health Physicist(s), the successful candidate will: investigate radiation hazards in the full range of RP assignments; assist in developing and implementing metrics to measure the effectiveness of the operational RP Program; assist in developing, implementing and evaluating administrative and engineering controls to protect Laboratory personnel from radiological hazards; assist in developing and implementing monitoring programs to measure the buildup of radioactive materials in the workplace and measure the integrity of radiological engineering controls; and help ensure that RP concepts and policies are incorporated into Laboratory designs to protect workers, the public and the environment. What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Health Physicist 1 ($87,200-$142,500): * Entry-level knowledge of Health Physics principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
* Entry-level knowledge of operational Health Physics including contamination control, external exposure control, airborne radioactivity monitoring.
* Entry-level experience responding to radiological incidents and emergencies.
* Entry-level experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting radiological safety/protection.
* Entry-level skills to conceptualize and communicate fundamental elements of radiological safety/protection to both technical and non-technical personnel.
* Entry-level skills in the preparation and presentation of radiological safety/protection reports.
Health Physicist 2 ($96,100-$159,000): In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the HP-2 level requires: * Working knowledge of Health Physics principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
* Working knowledge of operational Health Physics including contamination control, external exposure control, airborne radioactivity monitoring.
* Experience responding to radiological incidents and emergencies.
* Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting radiological safety/protection.
* Skills to conceptualize and communicate fundamental elements of radiological safety/protection to both technical and non-technical personnel.
* Skill in the preparation and presentation of radiological safety/protection reports.
Health Physicist 1 Education: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physical Science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Health Physicist 2 Education: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physical Science, and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. DOE Order 426.2: Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related science, 2 years job related experience, and 1 year of nuclear experience. Desired Qualifications: * Working knowledge of Los Alamos National Laboratory's radiation protection policies, practices, and procedures.
* Working knowledge of actinide processing health physics.
* Working knowledge of air monitoring and contamination control, including containment tents and glove bags.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* At least one year working in a Nuclear Facility.

* NRRPT certification
* Active Q clearance
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM. Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A. Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances. *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information. HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations. 426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer. Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status. Term position: Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
