Los Alamos National Laboratory is Hiring a Nuclear Radiation Transport Analyst (Scientist 3) with Security Clearance - Now Hiring Near Los Alamos, NM

What You Will Do Do you want to use cutting edge simulation tools and your radiation transport expertise to solve challenges in the nuclear weapons arena? We are seeking early and mid-career scientists to help lead a team to help understand vexing problems and apply neutron, gamma, proton, and electron transport expertise and find solutions. Work could span a broad range of Department of Energy & National Nuclear Security Administration missions, including modern and historic experimental diagnostics, intrinsic radiation, radiation detection and measurement, shielding design, criticality safety, nuclear threat reduction and response, radiation health protection, nuclear weapons effects, and nuclear forensics. We are seeking candidates that have simulation and/or experimental backgrounds and interest in two or more of these topics. While most of our analysis involve the use of Monte Carlo radiation transport codes (especially MCNP and GEANT), we do value expertise with Discrete Ordinate methods. We also value experience with experiment design and radiation detection hardware, data collection, interpretation, and analysis. Most staff in this group work within two or more of the above teams, and strong written and verbal communication skills are important in this group. A successful candidate will need to clearly demonstrate the depth of experience, roles and responsibilities in previous team projects, and technical rigor. What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Technical Knowledge You will need a technical background in one or more of the following areas: historic experimental diagnostics, intrinsic radiation, radiation detection and measurement, shielding design, criticality safety, nuclear threat reduction and response, radiation health protection, nuclear weapons effects, and/or nuclear forensics. Radiation Transport Simulation Code For this role you will need expertise in at least one radiation transport simulation code (e.g. MCNP6, GEANT, Attila/Attila4MC, PARTISN, etc) Collaboration Teamwork is essential to the success of our group. You will need to have demonstrated the ability to function effectively in a team environment with a willingness to learn new skills and be flexible in work assignments. This includes exhibiting professional conduct in interactions with co-workers and supervisors. Publications, Presentations, & Proposals You will need to have demonstrated scientific productivity as evidenced by publications and presentations. You will also be expected to seek out internal/external funding opportunities for yourself and optimally others through leading development of small to moderate proposals. Mentoring At this level you will be expected to take an active role in collaborating with and mentoring more junior staff including students and postdoctoral researchers.
