What You Will Do Would you like to become an insider threat professional? Are you interested in joining a dedicated team of counterintelligence/insider threat professionals helping to safeguard Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL)? If you answered "Yes" to these questions, we invite you to learn more about our opening for an Insider Threat (IT) Support Specialist. The mid-level IT Support Specialist assists the IT Data Analyst and IT Program Coordinator in conducting Counterintelligence and IT related activities and analysis to assess threats to LANL and national security posed by covert or overt activities of LANL personnel or foreign entities, domestic violent extremists, and international terrorists. The IT Support Specialist also assists with a diverse range of analytical products and support, including providing expertise to multiple members of the US Intelligence Community (USIC) and other government agencies. Local analytical assistance efforts will support national insider threat goals and objectives as directed by the LANL Foreign Immigration, Visits and Analysis (FVA) Group Leader and Office of Counterintelligence (OCI) Director. The IT Support Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the development of all source strategic and tactical research, analysis and writing, to include the production of finished assessments and raw reports. In addition, assisting and supporting the development of tailor-made operations and insider threat analytical tools and assisting with the collection, analysis, and documentation of information pertinent to insider threat related matters and insider threat awareness briefings will be expected. Contributing to due diligence efforts in support of proposed international agreements and supply chain risk management and collaborating across OCI components, with other components of the LANL Field Intelligence Element (FIE), and with other LANL personnel as appropriate will also be required of the position. Aiding in the development of extensive collaborations with Associate Laboratory Director for Defense Protection Program personnel, DOE IN, other DOE Counterintelligence and Insider Threat Field Offices, and extensive liaison with the FBI and other USIC members, to include assisting OCI personnel on various working groups and the planning and organizing of a local IT working group will also be expected of the position. Finally, assisting other OCI personnel with intelligence and insider threat briefings/presentations to laboratory personnel and DOE seniors which may inform/impact DOE policy throughout the department will be required. What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Insider Threat Experience Success in this position requires some insider threat experience and familiarity with relevant insider threat community policy (e.g., EO 13587, DOE O 470.5) and an understanding of insider threat indicators, organizations, and roles. Analysis The successful candidate will exemplify a vocational ethic that demonstrates a commitment to excellence, continuous learning, and semi-independent work. One also needs experience with supporting analytical projects and assisting with analytical services and demonstrated experience with intelligence and insider threat analysis methods. An understanding of current global political, economic, social, cultural, scientific, fiscal, and military conditions to accurately evaluate information is also a prerequisite. Briefings/Presentations Success in this position requires demonstrated experience assisting in the development of intelligence and/or insider threat briefings to decision makers at all levels. Interpersonal Skills One must be able to foster teamwork and interact professionally across LANL, with DOE IN, with other DOE Counterintelligence and Insider Threat Field Offices and with liaison partners. One must also be willing to occasionally represent OCI on various working groups and have strong literary skills and clarity of speech. Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, postgraduate course work is desirable. Desired Qualifications: DOE Insider Threat Familiarity with the DOE Insider Threat Program and insider threat professional certifications are a plus. Upon joining OCI, a successful candidate without insider threat professional certification must acquire certification as soon as feasible. DOE Counterintelligence Familiarity with the DOE Counterintelligence/Counterterrorism Program and knowledge of foreign intelligence service methods and of non-traditional foreign intelligence collection are also a plus. US Intelligence Community Experience A competitive candidate will have USIC experience and familiarity with seminal intelligence community policy (e.g., EO 12333, PDD 61) and an understanding of US intelligence and counterintelligence organizations and roles. Office Tools and Data Analysis Proficiency with Microsoft Office, MicroStrategy, working with various databases, and with parsing large data sets would be a benefit. Classification LANL Derivative classifier certification would also be a bonus. Upon joining OCI, a successful candidate without derivative classifier certification must acquire certification as soon as possible. Language Proficiency in a critical foreign language is also advantageous. Clearance Possession of an active Q clearance and SCI access and/or the ability to obtain these clearances expeditiously upon hire is preferred. Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM. Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances. *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
