Everyman Theatre is Hiring a Finance + Human Resources Manager Near Baltimore, MD

Everyman Theatre seeks a collaborative, detail-oriented, and positive-thinking leader to join a team of talented staff, artists, and Board Members in the role of Finance Human Resource Manager.

Everyman Theatre operates on a $6million annual budget and has recently completed a modernization of its chart of accounts and transition to cloud-based accounting, AP, credit card, and payroll software to adequately support the growing organization. The Finance Human Resource Manager, in collaboration with the Director of Finance Human Resources and Managing Director will work across departments to continue identifying and implementing efficiencies and controls in financial and human resource systems while maintaining focus on the organization’s strategic priorities and core values of people, community, and excellence.

The Finance Human Resource Manager reports to the Director of Finance Human Resources and works closely with all departments to oversee and manage all regular accounting operations and human resource functions for the organization including AP and AR entry and bookkeeping, credit card processing, payroll and benefits administration, staff policy development, and personnel matters.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides support to the Director of Finance Human Resources in daily financial management, accounting, budget, and human resource matters.
  • Manage the payroll system and ensure compliance with state and federal laws and the Everyman Theatre employee handbook. Administer weekly payroll and benefits contributions in payroll software (Paychex) and collaborate with all departments on system modifications.
  • Manage accounts payable process and ensure all invoices are processed in a timely manner, including entering and submitting organizational invoices to Bill (accounts payable software), setting up new vendors, obtaining W9 forms, obtaining department approval, and communicating with vendors regarding open payables. Manage year-end 1099 reporting.
  • Manage organization credit card reconciliation monthly through Expensify (credit card processing software).
  • Assist Director of Finance Human Resources with additional accounts payable/receivable support as needed.
  • Assist with creating financial reports, including working with the Development team to prepare and review grant budgets and closing reports for the administration of grants and special funding.
  • Assist with annual audit and tax filing activities, including providing support in preparation of schedules and supplying auditors with necessary documents and information.
  • Work with Director of Finance Human Resources and across the organization to ensure accurate monthly accounting and process regular adjusting journal entries as needed.
  • Manage the administration of health and retirement benefits for employees, including working with third party broker and insurance agencies to address contribution and coverage issues for employees.
  • In collaboration with Director of Finance Human Resources, further develop human resource functions including employee handbook, performance evaluation, training, recruitment, and benefits in alignment with Everyman CARES (Committee on Anti-Racism, Equity, and Solidarity).
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee personnel files.
  • Assist managers with recruitment, hiring, and applicant management.
  • Ensure Everyman Theatre compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations related to employment, postings, insurance, taxes, and other requirements.
  • Stays abreast of tasks or initiatives that may be helpful in further supporting the talent and culture of the organization through the lens of Everyman’s core values: people, community, and excellence.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 3 years (5 preferred) of work experience in finance and accounting, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience managing Human Resources is preferred.
  • Ability to navigate, produce, and contextualize managerial accounting reports with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate transparently, respectfully, and effectively across mediums and with audiences of varied cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Ability to provide clear and precise instruction to staff, contractors, visiting artists, volunteers, students, apprentices and
    interns, families, and patrons.
  • Sharp discernment and skill in analyzing data, problem-solving, and decision-making with the ability to productively question existing systems and engage in solution-oriented systems-thinking across departments.
  • The ability to prioritize effectively and manage stress created by personnel issues, multiple tasks, interruptions, and various priorities to meet deadlines in a frequently-flexible and fast-paced environment
  • Excellent skills of organization and follow-through.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel skills; experience with cloud-based accounting and CRM software including Sage Intacct, Bill, Expensify, Paychex, and Patron Manager a plus.
  • Ability to maintain and project an infectious positive attitude with a sense of humor and professionalism.
  • Passion for the performing arts and its role in community building.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

  • The Finance Human Resource Manager is a full-time exempt position with a starting salary of $55,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Everyman Theatre provides 100% medical coverage for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance including both full premium coverage and full deductible coverage.
