Trust for Public Land is Hiring a Talent Acquisition Manager (location flexible) Near New York, NY

Who we are
At TPL, we’re a team of outdoor advocates who believe in connecting everyone to the outdoors. As an ethos, we believe access to the outdoors is a fundamental human need and essential to our health and well-being. We’re committed to creating more places that bring us outside—parks, trails, playgrounds, and public lands—and making them available and welcoming to everyone, everywhere, regardless of ZIP code. We also understand that land has meaning; it tells the story of our history. That’s why, through our Black History and Culture initiative, we're working to preserve sites that more fully represent the Black American experience; and we’re an ally and partner to Tribal and Indigenous communities, working in partnership to reconnect them with their ancestral lands.
One hundred million people, including 28 million children, don’t have nearby access to a park within ten minutes of home. We’re determined to change this outdoor equity gap–and as a result, nine million people and counting now have access because of our work. We have miles to go and a plan to get there. We’re inclusive change-makers who believe in connecting everyone to the outdoors. We inspire by paving the way forward and strengthening our connection to nature.
Who you are
You believe access to the outdoors is a fundamental human need–not a luxury for just a few. When you hear about the outdoor equity gap, you want to roll up your sleeves and fix that. If you’re convinced that smiles get wider outdoors and that nature is vital to our health and well-being, then you’ll fit right in with our TPL team. We’re seeking individuals whose resolve is strengthened when met with injustices and challenges. We’re looking for people who are united in the conviction that experiences in nature build relationships and keep us healthy. Since 1972, we’ve grown into a community that’s rooted in our five shared values: belonging, creativity, collaboration, impact, and hope.
  • You have established successful and inclusive Talent Acquisition practices and have a desire to do so in a mission-driven organization connecting everyone to the benefits of the outdoors with community at the heart of everything we do.
  • You have been looking to work for an organization that collaborates with trusting and caring colleagues and can do so while living anywhere in the United States, including Hawaii, ideally close to one of 30 TPL offices listed at tpl.org. Working in a hybrid fashion does not get in your way of building relationships and collaborating with people especially hiring managers and colleagues.
  • Being part of a small but mighty high-performing People and Culture team is vital to you, and you cannot wait to bring your talent. You don't mind fixing and streamlining processes. In fact, you are a natural process improver.
  • You value and have networks enabling you to source diverse talent, including People of Color and Indigenous communities.
  • The ideal candidate for this role will be an agile, hands-on People partner who can develop and execute a recruiting strategy aligned with Trust for Public Land’s needs, mission, and values, ensuring performance across all talent acquisition discipline (e.g., talent mapping, sourcing, assessment & selection, offer negotiation, etc.) while leveraging data and analytics to inform decisions on resource allocation and deployment and to monitor key performance metrics.
What You'll Do...
  • As a key contributor to improving People and Culture's capacity, capabilities, service delivery, and supporting infrastructure, contribute to the overall People and Culture Strategy and offerings.
  • Serve as a trusted and credible relationship manager to leaders and hiring managers across the organization, providing strategic talent acquisition support and counsel, exhibiting high business acumen, and providing expertise on workforce planning, market trends, and best practices for talent acquisition.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with highly qualified, diverse industry talent, particularly senior-level roles.
  • Bring your experience and planning to build talent pipelines for key near-term and long-term organizational capability and capacity needs.
  • Drive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within recruitment to ensure a robustly represented candidate pool for building our culture and workforce.
  • Build and execute high-performing recruiting practices, ensuring the development and implementation of training required to ensure operational efficiency and excellence, flawless execution, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish best practice across the organization to ensure the best candidate experience throughout the recruitment process.
  • Develop, lead, and implement the Talent Acquisition Strategy, a full-cycle recruitment process - from talent planning through onboarding, ensuring a high-quality candidate experience for those selected and those not. Your approach and tools would align with our mission and values of belonging, creativity, collaboration, impact, and hope.
  • Collaborate to develop our Employee Value Proposition to ensure we are attracting, hiring, and delivering on the promise to talent
  • Build on and scale internal best practices to provide community-based fellowship development, internships, and internal-ship programs to attract and develop a pipeline of talent and leadership
  • Create mechanisms to prioritize, track and report openings and to ideally proactively source and hire
  • Market vacancies and source passive candidates beyond LinkedIn and other social media outlets, using traditional and non-traditional resources to attract a diverse, quality talent pool
  • Build internal capabilities to mitigate biases, attract, hire, and onboard talent; advise and coach hiring managers to make the best hiring decision.
  • Evaluate and improve the existing applicant process and tracking system
  • Ensure compliance regulatory requirements and oversee progress against goals in the Affirmative Action Plans and DEI Action Plan.
 What You Bring...
  • At least 5 years of progressive recruiting experience
  • Proven track record and expertise in talent acquisition best practices
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and executing resource and operational plans to deliver on hiring needs, including capacity planning, developing recruiting strategies, and effectively translating data into actionable insights, strategies, and hiring plans.
  • Strong understanding of how talent impacts organizational strategy
  • Proven success at building strong, credible advisory relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and communicate complex issues and concepts enterprise-wide, from the executive team to individual contributors.
  • A self-motivated professional with a strong work ethic, agility, and grit to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, innovative, often ambiguous environment and is driven by results.
  • Experience in using and optimizing recruitment technology and/or recruitment marketing initiatives, including ATS, Career sites; skills, values, and pre-employment assessments
  • Willingness to travel where required to build internal and external relationships, network, and source candidates
Compensation
As a full-time, exempt employee, you will be eligible for The Trust for Public Land’s comprehensive benefits program, which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, three weeks of vacation annually plus thirteen holidays, and a 403(b) retirement plan, currently with up to a 7% company match. We offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience; the range for this position is $90,000-110,000 annually.
The Trust for Public Land is an Equal Opportunity Employer and encourages diversity in the workplace. We welcome people of all backgrounds and seek to foster a culture of respect, openness, learning, integrity.
