Oregon Symphony is Hiring a Human Resources Director Near Portland, OR

Position Title: Human Resources Director
Department: Administration
Reports To: Vice President for Finance and Administration
Supervision Exercised: None
FLSA Status: Full-Time, non-exempt
SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Director at the Oregon Symphony will be a versatile professional responsible for
managing various HR functions, primarily focusing on benefits administration, HR Compliance, and
employee engagement, within a workforce that is both at-will and under labor agreements. In this new role,
the Director will shape the work culture and work to ensure the well-being of our talented team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Benefits Administration:
  • Manage employee benefit programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and
other fringe benefits.
  • Coordinate open enrollment, communicate benefit information to employees, and address
inquiries regarding benefits.
  • Collaborate with benefit providers to ensure accurate and timely administration of plans.
2. HR Support and Compliance:
  • Provide guidance, training and support to employees on HR-related matters, including
policies, procedures, and benefits.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate HR records and databases.
  • Supervise 3rd Party HR Consultant.
  • Oversee staff performance review process.
  • Ensure exit interviews are conducted and reported regularly to senior Leadership.
  • Oversee workplace investigations in communication with labor attorney.
3. Talent Acquisition Support:
  • Assist in the recruitment process by posting job openings, screening resumes, and
participating in interviews as needed.
  • Support onboarding activities to ensure a smooth transition for new hires.
4. Employee Relations and Engagement:
  • Foster positive employee relations by addressing queries, concerns, and conflicts in a
timely and confidential manner.
  • Support initiatives to enhance employee engagement and satisfaction including regular all-

staff meetings and periodic all-staff retreats.
5. Labor Relations:

  • Collaborate with union representatives to ensure mutual understanding and compliance
with legal requirements.
  • Conduct training sessions to educate both management and employees on labor
regulations, fostering understanding and compliance within the organization.
  • Support General Manager and VP in overseeing and managing relationships with
bargaining units, negotiating and administering union agreements, ensuring compliance
with collective bargaining laws, and resolving labor disputes effectively.
6. Payroll Backup:
  • Serve as a backup for payroll processing on an as-needed basis, assisting in the accurate

and timely completion of payroll tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; PHR or SHRM-CP
certification strongly preferred.
  • 3 years of progressive HR experience in labor relations and benefits administration.
  • Strong understanding of benefits management, including compliance and administration.
  • Experience with HRIS required. Experience with payroll software is a plus. Familiarity with payroll
processes is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive, imaginative, and pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
  • Sense of humor required. Passion for live symphonic music a plus.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger,
