Job Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director for Development, McDonough School of Business, the Associate Director of Development (ADoD) is a vital member of the School's frontline fundraising team and is responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of gifts of $50,000 and above from alumni and friends of the McDonough School of Business.
The ADoD will serve as an important member of the MSB development team during a pivotal moment in the University's historic comprehensive campaign and will collaborate with fellow gift officers, senior leadership, faculty, and colleagues throughout the School to help ensure that outreach to top-level constituents and donors is coordinated and effective.
The ADoD is responsible for independently managing a portfolio of approximately 125 prospects comprised of advanced leadership annual gifts and major donors and is expected to facilitate approximately 150 substantive activities annually with current and prospective donors across all stages of the engagement cycle, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Ask and close goals are based on the portfolio and status of its donors, with a projected range of $500K-$1M.
Work Interactions
This position is responsible for engaging current and prospective donors in the donor cycle and requires the ability to be knowledgeable and articulate in stating the case for support, vision, and mission of the McDonough School of Business (MSB), its academic priorities, and its broader impact on the world of business.
Working closely with program and center faculty and administrative leaders within MSB, the ADoD will serve as the department liaison for one or more of the School's academic centers. This work focuses on opportunities related to alumni engagement and fundraising for the assigned centers, with the ADoD expected to help build and execute an annual center strategy that will provide guidelines and assistance that enables the center to realize funding and engagement goals.
The ADoD will partner with Office of Advancement (OA) colleagues, with a heavy emphasis on collaboration with the regional and centrally-based development officers, to help with idea generation, planning, and execution of creative cultivation and engagement initiatives associated with the campaign and major gifts enterprise; the ADoD will occasionally be asked to serve on task forces, working groups, etc.
Performs other development-related tasks as necessary and partners with the Senior Director, team, and department on special projects as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
3 to 5 years of successful development or equivalent sales or marketing experience with a proven record of increased responsibility, outstanding relationship building and project management skills, and demonstrable interest and experience related to building strategy, negotiations, and creative problem-solving
Development experience at an academic, higher education institution, or similar environment and a strong commitment to business education preferred
Detail orientation and highly professional in presentation and speech
Tactful and enterprising with excellent written and organizational skills
Proficiency with fundraising software applications
Willingness and availability to travel, including air travel - and to work occasional weekends and after hours
Possession of a valid driver's license and willingness to drive
