Job Overview
The University Director of Learning and Development serves as a change agent within HR and across the University, responsible for providing strategic leadership and support for the assessment of organizational needs and the design, implementation of high impact programs and strategies that support and enhance the professional development and continuous learning of staff, managers and emerging leaders.
The University Director strategically plans, creates and tracks a wide range of workforce development and training programs and initiatives for the university; determines current and future training gaps; designs strategies for improvement and sustaining employee engagement and performance management; and manages the use and optimization of the Learning Management System to maximize learning opportunities across the University. Additionally, they manage a Learning and Development Specialist and an HR Training Assistant who are accountable for the development and implementation of workforce programs, trainings and initiatives that support and promote departmental strategic priorities.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the VP and CHRO, the University Director of Learning and Development serves as a fully contributing member of the HR senior leadership - a strategist, partner and expert resource on the deployment and management of complex HR matters, while applying principles of change to influence organizational culture. They are responsible for the design, development, delivery and implementation of customized training and learning development programs.
The University Director also serves as a facilitator and drives change efforts and human capital/workforce planning strategies by building collaborative, trusted and credible relationships with leadership and key stakeholders across the University. They assess current learning and development programs; and develop and implement creative and innovative training solutions, using a variety of techniques to meet the complex needs of the community.
The University Director is responsible for educating the community on the importance of performance management, as well as employee learning and development - including but not limited to leadership development programs, succession, servant leadership development, employee mentorship, cross training, coaching and performance based action plans.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
7 to 10 years of progressive experience in learning and development human resources and management positions
A solid understanding of organizational development, talent development and management, leadership development, succession planning, and change management
Excellent analytical, managerial, negotiation and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively, persuade and lead in order to accomplish organizational goals. Ability to create and integrate sustainable solutions to issues, while balancing the interests of diverse internal constituencies, while keeping the University's best interest first
Knowledge of current training, learning theory and practice, assessment and organizational development models and technologies
Excellent project management skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and strategically in a team environment
Excellent judgement and initiative, with outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with diverse internal and external constituents
Proven capacity for productive and helpful problem-solving
Preferred qualification
Master's degree
Technical degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development or related field and professional certification
