The mission of the Georgetown University Memory Disorders Program is to prevent and treat Alzheimer's disease and related dementias by conducting innovative research, educating and training healthcare professionals and the public on research advances, and offering state-of-the-art clinical care.
Job Overview
The Research Director is an operational, financial, and administrative role in support of the Memory Disorders Program (MDP) at Georgetown University Medical Center. They are responsible for the operational, financial, and regulatory management of the MDP, and exercise broad fiscal and administrative responsibility for current and upcoming MDP clinical trials and research studies.
The Research Director manages coordination, direction, and internal policy in areas of compliance, finance, and operations; oversees all federal and industry grant awards; and serves as administrative liaison with Federal, State and Corporate/Industry funding agencies as they relate to the MDP. They ensure that the MDP's day-to-day operations are conducted in accordance with University and Medical Center policy and procedures.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the MDP Director, the Research Director supports to the Director, Principal Investigators, and staff; and manages the daily and high level operational and fiscal aspects of MDP clinical trials.
The work of the MDP involves partnerships and collaboration with numerus national and international clinical trial sites, Universities, and Research Institutions. Therefore, the Research Director collaborates closely with GU Federal and Industry Grant Managers and the Office of Sponsored Research to ensure compliance and maximal program funding and revenue.
The Research Director provides MDP financial and program updates to the Chair of the Department of Neurology, and serves as primary liaison to MedStar research partners, such as Radiology and Nuclear Medicine that conduct procedures essential to MDP clinical trial work.
They work directly with GU administration to ensure compliance with industry and federal guidelines and regulations, and are responsible for the development of short and long-term planning for MDP operations, budgeting and hiring. As well, they work with GU Human Resources to negotiate and implement all program human resources actions, including hiring, salaries, and salary allocation.
The Research Director liaises with MDP and Neurology faculty and clinical staff to facilitate and assist with new and ongoing research initiatives of MDP investigators; and serves as a primary resource for guidance and training on internal and external research study policies and procedures for MDP Investigators and all internal and external research collaborators.
They work with PIs, research staff, GUMC finance and administrative offices, and study sponsors to ensure the safe and efficient conduction of clinical trials and studies - and to project and plan for future expansion of the MDP clinical trial program in line with the national and international growth of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders research. As well, they operate with a strong understanding of current GU policies and SOPs related to research and fiscal management, and educate team members in all of the above.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or Master's degree
5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent relevant work experience in clinical trial coordination, program management, and administrative/supervisory experience (consideration will be given to equivalent combination of education and experience)
Excellent organizational and communication skills with ability to work collaboratively with internal and external research partners, industry and federal study sponsors, and research participants and their families
Attention to detail and self-directed, with a solid base of management skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks
Successful track record of using analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and professionally
Expert knowledge of clinical trial budgets and finances, Good Clinical Practice guidelines, clinical trial study coordination and management, and compliance policies regarding clinical regulatory environment
Solid writing skills, including grammar, punctuation, composition, and spelling
Computer proficiency with demonstrated knowledge of PC software programs, including Windows, MS Office, Microsoft Excel, internet, and email
Preferred qualifications
Experience as a Clinical Trials Coordinator/Manager
Psychometric Rater Certification in Alzheimer's disease clinical trials
