The Role:

Coverfly is seeking a Business Development Manager to manage and grow relationships with respected entertainment industry leaders who will serve as mentors, jurors, panelists, and strategic advisors for our artist development programs. We currently have twenty-eight artist development programs, each with a different focus. In this role, you’ll be sourcing and fostering relationships through inbound and outbound methods with writers, literary agents, producers, organizations, and other relevant entities around the world. You’ll also serve as a brand ambassador in advocating for our products and services, and helping our users leverage our tools to accomplish their needs.

Our 7-person team includes a Department Head, a Senior Manager, two Business Development Managers, a Partnerships Manager, and two Coordinators. We are a collaborative, supportive team that values autonomy and leans into individual strengths to achieve mutual goals. While fast-paced to match the changing and volatile market demands, we are passionate about providing resources and tools to help creatives.

As this role will involve working across functions and with our VIP clientele, you should be a natural networker, self-motivated, highly organized, an excellent communicator, with a keen interest in the entertainment industry. While a remote role, proximity to Los Angeles area is highly preferred.

The Manager, Business Development will report to Coverfly’s Senior Manager, Business Development.

What You’ll Do:

  • Identify, court, grow, and maintain industry users within the Coverfly database
  • Onboard new accounts, provide guidance on successful usage of the platform, and identify relevant projects through regular communication
  • Schedule jurors, mentors, panelists, strategic partners, and equivalents for internal programs, events, initiatives, or projects
  • Track, collect, and share industry trends, news, and information for projects and initiatives both within and outside of the department
  • Attend events – virtual or in person for the purpose of generating new relationships and business opportunities outside of traditional business hours
  • Work with the Competitions Team to develop and execute career development strategies for writers within the platform with the goal of generating representation signings,optioning or sales of material, or hiring/staffing on projects for the purpose of providing marketing promotional materials and improving the brand’s reputation.
  • Propose new projects, initiatives, or improvements to achieve department goals, grow company, or pursue new business opportunities
  • Assist and contribute on department projects exploring new partnerships, products, and opportunities
  • Elevate brand awareness through marketing initiatives such as Q&As, interviews, and industry events as needed
  • Provide personalized consultations with writers, filmmakers, and creatives for internal programs and competitions as needed
  • Track and report upon communication and contacts via our internal management system

What we’re looking for from you:

  • 2 years of experience in Account Management, Business Development, Sales, or similar for the entertainment industry, a SAAS platform, or related industry
  • Knowledge of screenwriting, writing and reviewing script coverage, and/or project development knowledge highly preferred
  • Prior experience at a production company, management company, agency, studio, etc.
  • Engaging and helpful; comfortable with networking and developing relationships with industry contacts
  • Exceptional project management skills; must be detail oriented, able to balance competing priorities simultaneously, and hit deadlines
  • Proximity to the greater Los Angeles area preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible, collaborative, and supportive; able to perform in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter; comfortable pushing projects forward, but willing to ask for help, support, or clarification as needed
  • Experience with data entry in Google Sheets or Excel required; experience with project management and CRM platforms a plus!
  • Ability to attend festivals and other industry events as required
Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.

The compensation range for this position is:

$65,000—$75,000 USD
