The work we do at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) matters to our country and the world. This role works in a team environment within LANL's nuclear facility in support of Nuclear Deterrence and NASA space missions. Processes at Los Alamos National Lab are performed using detailed operating procedures that utilizes extensive knowledge and expertise in following good Conduct of Operations, nuclear criticality safety, material control and accountability, radiological safety and environmental compliance requirements. In this role you will use the principles and theories of mechanical and electrical engineering to solve technical problems in support of engineering for pit manufacturing and surveillance in the Strategic Materials and Directed Stockpile Work programs at LANL. The successful candidate will support engineering and projects in the development of tooling and equipment for various projects in our development and production areas. Typical processes that are performed include: tooling design and prototyping, reverse engineering, and process development assistance. Responsibilities will entail equipment installation and production support for these processes. The successful candidate will work closely with other LANL design, tooling, prototype, and fabrication personnel to ensure that these products are compatible for use in a Category 2 nuclear facility. All documentation that is developed will meet nuclear conduct of operations requirements and meet the quality requirements of our diverse customer-base. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently; work as part of a team; and contribute to continuous process improvements to meet customer requirements. Specific job duties include, but are not limited to: * Use and apply appropriate standards, such as the NNSA Development and Production Manual and NAP-24 Quality Requirements, within the engineering discipline to develop and perform necessary work.
* Develop procedures and tooling that meet conduct of engineering requirements for a Category 2 nuclear facility.
* Contribute to the fulfillment of the plutonium sustainment, directed stockpile work, weapons surveillance projects and organizational objectives.
* Develop tooling for use in the production of components fabricated in a Category 2 nuclear facility.
* Work with process technologists to ensure that they are trained appropriately to perform work using tools that have been developed.
* Prepare, review and document technical information for new equipment, including product literature and commercial specifications, for use in our programs.
* Adhere to engineering policies, programs, procedures and practices, such as quality assurance plans and development and production manuals.
What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: * Advanced knowledge and experience with ProEngineer Creo.
* Advanced knowledge in reading, applying, and calculating GD&T stacks.
* Advanced knowledge of reverse engineering and rapid prototyping.
* Advanced technical knowledge associated with facilities and production processes related to manufacturing.
* Advanced knowledge of commercial databases, such as PDMLink and SharePoint.
* Advanced knowledge mathematical formulas, computations, and data gathering methods.
* Advanced knowledge of engineering authorization and procedure control systems.
* Advanced knowledge of engineering principles and basic technical responsibilities, including design and systems technology, within designated discipline.
* Familiarity with industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the fabrication of plutonium-containing metal components.
Desired Qualifications: * Previous work in a nuclear facility is preferred, but not required.
* Experience working with classified matter.
Education: Position requires an associate degree in an Engineering or Technical field and 5 years of related experience, or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad. *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances.
