Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine is Hiring a Business Development Specialist Near Bethesda, MD

Join the HJF Team!

HJF is seeking a Business Development Specialist to manage, coordinate and assist the HJF Business Development/Strategic Initiatives function in accomplishing HJF’s goals. Through engagement with key organizational stakeholders, complete various technical and administrative assignments by gathering requirements and researching opportunities in support of the business development lifecycle. This position will be in support of HJF's Home Office Department of Strategic Initiatives, Business Development (BD) Team.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with the Business Development Team to identify requirements, maintain opportunity searches and assist with identifying growth areas in support of our corporate and investigator led opportunities. Engage with business development and operational leadership to assist with identifying and engaging subject matter experts.
  • Research, assess, collect and review internal and external source information to maintain internal databases and content libraries to include the Client Relationship Management (CRM) system. Research, evaluate and provide feedback on trends and patterns in customer support requirements.
  • Prepare, update and coordinate development of digital and print materials to include capability statements/briefs, marketing materials, announcements, and content templates.
  • Assist in management and assessment of external inquiries for partnership and collaboration. Support drafting and editing of responses for various types of opportunity submissions. Work with Legal, Contracts and operational teams to assist with agreement tracking, development, negotiations, and execution.
  • Support participation in seminars, conference/association meetings, symposia and other events including assisting with logistics as well as managing sponsorship and exhibiting opportunities.
  • Serve as back-up support to Business Development and Client Relationship Managers as necessary.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years experience required.
  • Willing to consider Master's with 3 years of proposals experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience consulting with stakeholders to identify and specify requirements.
  • Experience with managing various types of information, content and databases.
  • Experience/understanding of the proposal process.
  • Excellent writing/editing, proofreading, grammar and research skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently source information and data.
  • Ability to multi-task, remain flexible, and respond to changing priorities.
  • Experience demonstrating initiative and effectively accomplishing tasks in timely manner.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience with biosciences, public health, clinical research operations or Department of Defense Military Health and Research programs is preferred.
  • Understanding of the medical research development process within the department of defense is preferred.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
