Job Overview
The Associate Director of Development (ADoD) is responsible for increasing the number of donors, and the number and level of philanthropic gifts in support of biomedical medical research and other medical center-wide priorities. Additionally, they engage donors and volunteers in various activities and events in order to sustain and deepen their connection with Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) over time.
They work with the Senior Director, academic leaders, faculty, University officials and volunteers to design and implement annual fundraising plans to support key institutional priorities. They knowledgeably and articulately communicate the case for support; effectively identify, cultivate and solicit potential donors; and work closely with colleagues in annual fund, donor relations, stewardship, event planning, and prospect research. As well, they maintain a portfolio of individual and select corporate/foundation prospects and donors.
The ADOD performs other duties as periodically assigned by Senior Director and/or GUMC Advancement leadership; and builds an effective fundraising program for specific GUMC priorities from baseline without the benefit of an alumni-based constituency.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible development experience - preferably in science or medical-related fundraising field, including volunteer management and solicitation experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn an array of medical specialties and disciplines in the basic science area
  • Strong computer skills, including all Microsoft applications - as well as proficiency using fundraising and prospect/donor management software.
  • Flexibility, initiative, self-discipline, and attention to detail
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and work collaboratively with others both internal and external to the institution
  • Availability to travel and to periodically work weekend and after hours
