The Foundation manages a $31,000,000 endowment that provides funds for the church operating budget and grants to many other community organizations.Job DescriptionPOSITION DESCRIPTIONThis organization is seeking a Controller who is accountable for the accounting operations of the organization, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. This position also would entail analysis and forecasting of the financial position of the church. This position reports to the Senior Executive Director, who reports to the Senior Pastor.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:ManagementParticipate in the management of accounting and finance personnelDevelop and plan department objectives, with the Executive Pastor and staff, including short and long-term accounting projects to improve budgeting and accounting processes and systemsOversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectivesMaintain a documented system of accounting policies and proceduresAssist and direct the selection and training of departmental personnel, performance reviews, merit increase recommendations, promotions, and disciplinary actionsLead and/or attend a variety of meetings with management and department staff to review and discuss accounting and financial matters and systemsWork with the staff on the ground to oversee the accounting operations of the ground, especially the control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures, to assure consistency throughout the organization.Reporting and ControlDirect and perform financial accounting functions to ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial information including all standard financial statements.Assume overall responsibility for the accuracy of financial reporting as well as payroll, accounts payable and receivable, cash accounting, program and grant accounting, and fixed assets accountingCoordinate the preparation for and the completion of the annual audit, including receiving, all necessary financial information from all entities.Develop and monitor processes and procedures to ensure internal financial controls are in place to safeguard the organization’s assetsDevelop and report financial and operating metrics to assess effectiveness of operationsPerform accounting and tax research when necessaryParticipate in the annual budget process working with the Executive Director and staff, assisting as needed at various stages of the processProvide financial analyses as needed for reporting and planning purposesAssure integrity of the accounting software systems is maintainedComplianceDevelop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory agenciesCoordinate and participate in the completion and filing of the IRS Form 990s for various entities, working with the outside accounting firmOversee compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings. QualificationsREQUIREMENTSThe ideal candidate will have:A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, finance or a related fieldA master’s degree (MBA, MPA or related field) preferredCPA preferredExperience with financial forecasting and budgeting.At least five years of church management experience or faith-based non-profit management experience in an organization with multiple operating entitiesDemonstrated experience in coordinating numerous groups toward common objectivesBe self-directed and able to identify priorities in the context of both formal and informal objectivesBe able to work independently and collaboratively within a teamBe able to both take and share authority as well as the ability to both lead and follow. Additional InformationCOMPENSATIONCompetitive range of $75-85,000 (based on experience) with benefits, further disclosed to interviewed applicants.
