Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated Senior Accountant to join our accounting team, reporting to the Controller. This position will be responsible for a variety of tasks supporting the accounting department, including managing our accounts payable function to meet the needs of a rapidly growing company. This role is designed to provide experience across departmental functions and is intended to offer the opportunity for growth and the potential for future accounting roles within the company.

This role will sit in our Durham, NC or Houston, TX office.

 Responsibilities and Duties

• Record monthly journal entries in assigned areas, including accruals, prepaid expenses and other areas
• Work with department heads to gather information for the monthly accrual process
• Manage the Accounts Payable function, including maintaining vendor relationships and entry of all vendor invoices
• Assist with preparation of month-end account reconciliations
• Collaborate with Procurement to ensure purchases adhere to Purchase Order documentation, including appropriate approval authorizations
• Work with operational department heads or project leads to ensure invoice coding is correct and consistent with Purchase Order requirements
• Work with department heads or project leads to track monthly WIP estimates
• Ensure Accounts Payable transactions are consistent with established processes and recorded in accordance with system of internal controls
• Willingness and ability to learn to work with cross-functional disciplines within Accounting
• Other tasks as requested by management

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required
• 2-to-4 years of relevant experience in accounting (public or industry) required
• Experience with or demonstrated interest in the energy or construction industry is preferred
• CPA certificate is preferred, and CPA seeking candidates are encouraged to apply
• Familiarity with public company accounting regimen, including relevant SOX compliance
• Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP preferred for candidates with industry background
• Must be very comfortable with information technology; proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel are a must
• Must enjoy working in a fast paced, dynamic environment
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including process and procedure documentation
• Effective analytical and independent problem-solving skills are required for this role
• Strong organizational skills in a multi-tasking environment are essential
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in prioritizing tasks and duties
• Possesses diligent attention to detail
