Job Overview

We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Controller to play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of our company. This position will report to our Chief Accounting Officer and will bring extensive experience in financial management, regulatory compliance, and a deep understanding of the intricacies of energy markets. 

The role can be based in our Durham, North Carolina or Houston, Texas office.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Oversee all financial activities, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, accounting standards, and SEC requirements.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to provide strategic financial insights and support decision-making processes.
• Assist in the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial reports, including quarterly and annual filings, in compliance with SEC regulations.
• Ensure the integrity and transparency of financial statements and disclosures.
• Develop and update as necessary an internal monthly reporting package that addresses management requests and aids in external reporting.
• Play a key role in the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing financial guidance to support operational planning and resource allocation.
• Work closely with the Company’s Director of Internal audit to establish a SOX 404 compliant internal control environment to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Conduct regular assessments to identify and mitigate financial risks.
• Improve the efficiency of accounting processes by implementing or optimizing tools/systems including NetSuite, Workiva, and close management software, etc.
• Manage tax planning and compliance, working closely with external advisors to optimize tax strategies and ensure adherence to all relevant tax regulations, including those relevant to partnerships.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, facilitating a smooth and efficient audit process.
• Address audit findings and implement recommendations to enhance financial processes.
• Lead and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience in a public company within the energy or construction sectors or related industry.
• Extensive knowledge of SEC reporting requirements, GAAP, and other relevant accounting and financial regulations.
• Experience with Partnership and Corporate organization structures.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with executive leadership, board members, and external stakeholders.
