Summary

The Controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the development of a financial strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee all aspects of the accounting policy and procedures of the organization.
• Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements to management
• Develop and monitor policies and procedures within generally accepted accounting principles and corporate guidelines to preserve company assets, identify weakness and strengthen internal controls.
• Provides evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives as set forth by company management.
• Take hands-on lead position of developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive job cost system.
• Manage processes for financial reporting for both internal and external needs.
• Oversee the month-end close process, constantly reviewing procedures while eliminating inefficiencies.
• Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
• Travel of approximately 10-15% is required for carrying out duties with primarily day trips but occasional overnights.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Will serve as direct supervisor to Accounting Department.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations essential.
• Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
• Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to extensively analyze business processes and workflows.

• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
• Significant experience working with external auditors, internal controls and compliance-related issues.
• High level of competence with MS Office, especially Excel.

Education

• BS in Accounting or Finance preferred
• CPA strongly preferred.

Prior Work Experience

• 5 years of experience with some level of supervisory experience.
• Previous controller or equivalent experience highly desirable.
• Work for or with specialized motor vehicle dealership is ideal; any motor vehicle dealership experience is preferred.
• ESOP experience is a plus.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
