Description – Director of Business Development
Position Overview: The Director is responsible for developing and overseeing the processes of developing and managing business opportunities at Costa Fruit and Produce, located in Boston, MA. Primary duties include working closely with other company executives, sales and marketing management teams, sales representatives as well as meeting with potential business partners in addition to monitoring market trends to identify and develop new and emerging markets and potential clients.
Reporting Structure: Reports to Company President and Senior Vice President
Qualifications:
· Five or more years in a similar position with a food company; preferable a foodservice purveyor or distributor
· Excellent references
· Track record of accomplishment
· Tireless work ethic
· Keen knowledge of the New England hospitality marketplace including contacts
· Excellent writing and verbal skills
· College level degree
· Basic computer skills
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
· Various outreach activities aimed at attracting new clients achieved by innovating and managing the prospecting process
· Research Sales; Identifying and researching opportunities that come up in new and existing markets, specifically:
o Develop list of active prospects for each of the following categories including all necessary contact information
§ Independent local hotel, restaurant and foodservice chains
§ Cruise lines out of Boston and other New England ports
§ Airline caterers
§ Local contract Feeders and/or On-site caterers such as AVI, Gourmet Caterers
§ Independent retail chains
§ ‘Street’ within each reps territory
o Home meal delivery
o Independent retailers
o Non-profit accounts – food banks and pantries etc
o Major and/or national restaurant chains
o New and emerging markets
Primary Duties and Responsibilities continued:
· Maintain active prospect list in each category with updates sales interactions
· Provide a weekly written activity report of business development activities week to Company President and Senior Vice President
· Continue to develop and refine the business proposal format
· Assist Sales Representatives develop prospects and leads in their respective territory
· Prepare sales strategies and presentations to potential new clients
· Create and manage outbound sales campaigns (phone calls, emails, etc.) aimed at creating new sales opportunities
· Maintain and update client activities in CRM in addition to internal manual systems .
· Developing rapport with key decision makers
· Translating proposals into ready-to-sign contracts
· Manage both the CRM and the weekly planner/outcome manual program
· Owning the sales lifecycle from prospecting to implementation
· – 8 million in new sales as a direct result of this position’s research contribution, support and/assistance
Compensation program: Commensurate with experience and past track record
