Capital Logistics Group is Hiring a Carrier Sales Representative Near Chicago, IL

JOB DESCRIPTION

A Carrier Sales Representative works with all departments, companywide; Capital Logistics Group and CLG Transportation, Logistics, HR/Safety and Accounting. As a Carrier Sales Representative, you will primarily work with our Director of Operations sourcing capacity for the daily business. You are responsible for maintaining and growing existing and new carriers by building relationships through daily interaction including sourcing capacity, tracking, and problem solving.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Carrier Sales/Director of Operations Support – interact constantly throughout the day with the Director of Operations and effectively communicate the pulse on capacity and rates
    • Source, qualify, and develop carriers to move freight and maintain customer expectations. The Senior Carrier Sales Representative is responsible for the course of the sale/book of the load from start to finish. This may entail making phone calls in the evening or on weekends to meet customer expectations.
    • Be able to independently manage your individual daily load board
    • Collaborate daily with the Director of Operations on priorities and goals for the carrier team
    • Answer incoming calls with urgency and represent CapLog in a professional manner
    • Provide a good example to the carrier team in work ethic and be a source for the carrier team of information and guidance in cooperation with the Director of Operations
  • Data Entry – enter and maintain up-to-date data related to carrier information, including names, phone numbers, emails, CRM file, and insurance certificates, as necessary
    • Ensure that carriers are set up in My Carrier Packets so we have all necessary documentation in place before a carrier is booked on a load
    • Cover loads in the system with a sense of urgency and attention to detail; Communicate load changes, as needed, to the carrier after initial rate confirmation is sent
    • Track and trace shipments with drivers and dispatchers and accurately enter updates in the system as well as inform and involve other team members, as necessary
  • Communication – effectively communicate with dispatchers, drivers, teammates, and occasionally
    • Develop strong relationships with carriers to promote a positive representation of CapLog and a capacity stream for business
    • Negotiate rates to win capacity and maintain healthy margins for a successful outcome
    • Effectively communicate with internal and external customers with shipment updates via written and verbal means in a manner that inspires confidence and trust to grow existing business and assist in winning new business
    • Update the Director of Operations on any issues that may need managerial assistance
    • Work with sales team leads in forecasting, business planning, and strategy
  • Troubleshooting – operate as a team player to troubleshoot and resolve a wide variety of problems, such as fixing invoicing issues or load confirmation, verifying load locations, and quickly respond to customer, driver, management, and peers.
    • Proactively communicate with drivers/dispatchers/Account Managers with any load issues
    • Notify the Account Manager on any load events that may require customer approval and provide any backup necessary for approval Perform after-hours activities, as necessary, to resolve driver/shipper/ consignee/customer issues
  • Time Management /Miscellaneous – manage and perform duties simultaneously throughout the day, prioritizing tasks effectively and swiftly plan for changing workload needs
    • Take on new assignments with enthusiasm and a direction for improving and advancing
    • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics and regulations
    • Identify and recommend process improvements that reduce cost and improve operations
    • Perform other duties as assigned; job description may be revised and duties may be changed, added or deleted as work demands prevail
