PURPOSE
The Business Development Representative is responsible for initiating and developing shipper & customer relationships to grow freight volume within our network, increase revenue and enhance profitability. This role solicits freight opportunities from partners, orchestrates service setup per customer procedures, and collaborates with our carrier operations team to ensure services are executed accordingly. Business Development Representatives are responsible for understanding their customers’ needs fully and uncovering additional opportunities to render service.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Build a network of shipper partners by identifying qualified leads, establishing Ascend’s value proposition and rapport with decision makers, as well as soliciting incremental freight service opportunities.
  • Presenting solutions and negotiating rates with shipper partners to ensure our value of service is commensurate with transportation markets, and company targets are met.
  • Communicate with customers throughout the life of the load so that any delays and/or issues are bridged, giving a voice to our success stories when we’re executing to plan.
  • Working collaboratively with other Ascend departments such as Carrier Operations, Support Ops, AR/AP, etc. to handle all customer and carrier partner needs.
  • Continually growing shipper partner network through building rapport, identifying issues, offering additional booking opportunities, and providing successful solutions.
  • Model and promote Ascend’s Values: Zero Safety Events; Be Courageous; Act with Integrity; Inspire Trust; Teamwork; Have Fun and Build a Legacy.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preferred 1 year of experience in transportation or logistics – Not Required.
  • Previous sales, negotiations, or customer service experience preferred.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATONS, & LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or High School Diploma/GED with relevant experience.
