Armada Hoffler Properties is Hiring a HSSE Support Specialist Near Baltimore, MD

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Health, Safety Security & Environmental (HSSE), the Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Specialist (HSSE Specialist) will provide support to the operations and execution of requirements established in the AH HSSE Plan and Construction Safety Manual (CSM).

This person shall be a part-time employee, or one assigned this responsibility as a secondary responsibility working for the department 3-4 days a week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Works collaboratively with AH project teams, and subcontractors to identify and mitigate issues with missing records or submittals to ensure compliance with OSHA and AH CSM requirements.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on all safety related project submittals including safety plans, safety data sheets, and job hazard analysis to ensure they meet the requirement of the AHCC Safety Program and OSHA.
  • Assists the HSSE Staff with coordinating and conducting special safety meetings or training sessions as needed. Including processing training program rosters, generating certificates or other proof of training, and transmitting same.
  • Ensures the completeness of all investigation and reporting incidents and ensures they are distributed to all necessary stakeholders.
  • Provides assistance to the project teams with the supply, inspection, and accountability of personal protective equipment for AH personnel and visitors to the site.
  • Assists with maintaining safety records including data entry, electronic filing and filing of printed records.
  • Assists with coordinating and scheduling personnel training programs, tracking inspections, and travel schedules of HSSE personnel.
  • Assists with formatting and proof reading of safety related correspondence and documents.
  • Aids in the upkeep and updating of files of the HSSE Department and Project Files related to the department’s mission. This includes ensuring project teams have all subcontractor safety records on file for each subcontractor.
  • Assists with the maintenance and distribution of the Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) policies and procedures documentation generated by the Department.
  • Supports Safety Department by gathering information identified as deficient during inspections. (Coordinate with Project Teams)
  • Assists with the preparation of analysis and communications, such as spread sheets, tables, charts, and presentations in relation to Health, Safety, Security, Environmental, and workers compensation.
  • Assists the Director of HSSE with the preparation for periodic safety meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Assists with maintaining inventory of safety equipment, resources, and training materials as demand requires.
  • Ensure adequate safety supplies are ready for shipment to the field or offices.
  • Assists with mail distribution and shipping items to Company locations or governmental agencies.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of construction safety / public safety experience
  • OSHA 10/30 hour certified, preferred but will train
  • First Aid / CPR and AED Certified or Higher EMS Certification
  • Hazwoper 40 Hour or Hazmat Technician Training preferred but will train.
  • Public Safety Experience / Training in Structural Collapse, Confined Space, and Trench are also helpful.
  • Ability to write clear and concise professional reports, correspondence, and assist with developing technical or standard operational procedures.
  • Must have solid recordkeeping, organization, time management skills and superior attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office as well as the ability to learn new software applications and adapt to changing technology.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
  • Ability to develop and present site-specific safety training to address ongoing or developing safety hazards.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work from a project or field office which involves periodic outside work on an active construction site. The employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, slippery surfaces, outside weather conditions in all seasons and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.

Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, use construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job will require the use of hands to fingers with the ability to handle, or feel objects, sit, talk, and hear. It will require the employee to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, and kneel. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Occasional travel may be required so employee should have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record in compliance with Armada Hoffler’s Driver Qualification Policy. Occasional overnight stays on out-of-town projects is a possibility.

Employee must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug screens and a background check.
