About Play is Hiring a Human Resources Assistant (Intern) Near Columbia, SC

Internship Title: Human Resources Assistant (Intern) - Onsite

Workdays: Monday – Friday |[9am-12 or 1-5pm]

Work Hours per Week: Flexible based around school schedule or 10-15 hours

Internship Timeframe: Winter break or 2022 Spring/2023 (January – May)

Salary: Unpaid

About Play, LLC was established in 2015 and believes a lifetime of learning begins with a child's experiences of play. Our goal is to provide a quality Early Intervention program that nurtures families in meeting their child's developmental needs.

Early Intervention is designed to improve outcomes for children with developmental delays and disabilities. Services provide early, appropriate, and intensive interventions to families. Early Intervention is a range of services designed to assist families at the early stages of an infant or toddler’s developmental delay or disability. About Play currently provides Family Training and Service Coordination in 40 counties within South Carolina.

Position Overview:We are currently offering an unpaid Human Resources Assistant Internship opportunities in our office. An internship is designed to provide students the opportunity to integrate practical and academic learning along with applying knowledge and skills learned in a classroom to on-site work experiences.

The Human Resources (HR) Assistant Intern will directly assist the Human Resources Department and company with a wide range of projects related to HR compliance, recruiting, on-boarding/orientation, employee benefits, data entry, and HRIS analysis. This internship is designed to be mutually educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills she or he may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest and apply them in a professional setting. He or she will gain a better understanding of the role that Human Resources can play in an organization and be better prepared to work in the arena of human resources.

The primary goal of About Play, LLC internship program is to offer an opportunity for learning and gaining experience. Our team is passionate, fun, creative and committed to serving and supporting families & children ages birth to six years who have developmental delays or disabilities.

Responsibilities: Provide direct administrative HR supports as needed, including scheduling appointments, interviews, meetings, and hiring events/sessions with local colleges & universities. Answers frequently asked basic questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.

  • Assist with the day-to-day tactical functions that directly support the Human Resources team
  • Assist with HR recruiting efforts & hiring events/sessions with local colleges & universities
  • Provide direct administrative HR supports as needed, including scheduling appointments, interviews, and meetings
  • Assist with advertisement
  • Assist with Pre-employment & Background Checks
  • Assists with new hire orientation prep and orientation
  • Assist with Onboarding/Offboarding processes & workflow
  • Create employee personnel files
  • Maintain personnel files by keeping them accurate, updated and confidential
  • File maintenance
  • Perform clerical duties such as filing, typing memorandums, etc
  • Assist with verification of employment or active and inactive employees
  • Assists with planning and execution of special events such as organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations
  • Adhere to all department/organization policy and procedures
  • Abide by all safety rules and procedures of company
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. We are looking for energetic, creative, motivated, and passion-driven professionals with great time management and organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy; someone who is able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.

  • Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate Human Resources, Business Administration, or related degree program with an interest to work in Human Resources
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously; Strong time-management and people skills
  • Excellent organizational skills self-starter and strong and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications, with aptitude to learn new software and systems
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications

Additional Information:

  • Available 10-15 hours per week or complete necessary hours to meet course requirement
  • Chosen applicants aged 18 and up must complete a background check prior to hire
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable car
  • Must be Fully Vaccinated prior to pre-employment & background check process
