Summary

The Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy is looking for a Lead HR Officer to lead our growing HR team. The Lead HR Officer will manage our HR team and oversee both Staff and Academic HR, working closely with Ford School leadership by providing consultation and advice on strategic HR matters. You will report to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and regularly consult directly with the Dean.

Responsibilities*

Leadership & Organizational Design:

  • Provide strategic HR leadership for the school in collaboration with the CAO and Special Assistant to the Dean
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, programs and procedures that support our mission, objectives, and diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plan, and promote a positive and productive work environment
  • Provide guidance to the Dean, Associate Deans, Ford School senior staff and research center leadership in the areas of workforce planning, workforce climate, coaching and development, and conflict resolution
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the HR Team, which includes the Staff HR Officer, Academic HR Officer, and HR Assistant
  • Stay informed of trends and best practices

Key HR Areas:

  • Manage compensation programming for both staff and faculty, including the annual merit salary program and regular salary equity analyses
  • Provide managers with guidance on career development, job classifications, and salary determination
  • Work collaboratively with the CAO on faculty hiring and retention offers
  • Oversee the school's staff performance management program
  • Advise leadership and managers on matters relating to performance management, employee relations, implementation of bargaining agreements, and policy interpretation
  • In collaboration with the Staff HR Officer develop and manage programs and strategies to support the growth and development of Ford School staff and managers.
  • Oversee our recruitment strategy and activity and partner with the HR Officers to ensure that we are promoting, building and maintaining a high performing and diverse workforce
  • Actively collaborate with managers and employees to promote positive work relationships, build morale, promote engagement, and effectively resolve conflicts
  • Advise the Dean on the management of issues or concerns with senior staff and faculty where needed

HR Administration:

  • Oversee staff and faculty appointments
  • Represent the School on University-wide committees

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience leading Human Resources programming and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of HR enterprise software and data query tools and conceptual understanding of how to leverage technology to provide analysis

Desired Qualifications*

  • A Master's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration or a related field
  • Certification from SHRM, PHR or other equivalent HR professional organization
  • Prior supervisory experience
