Human Resources Specialist
This position will work closely with the Manager of Personnel and Administration on human resources related needs and requests for the School of Computing and Information. The HR Specialist will be the primary contact and liaison for the student hiring process and will work with the requestors to validate funding, successfully post, and hire hourly student employees. This individual will also be the primary contact and liaison for temporary employment requests, validation of funding, posting positions, screening candidates, assisting with successful hiring, and onboarding of the temporary employees. Will track the status and verify the completion of required onboarding for both hourly student workers and temporary employees. Individual will assist the Manager of Personnel and Administration with phone screens for new and replacement staff positions as needed.
The HR Specialist will create, update and maintain files, records, and databases to enable accurate reporting and analysis of activities. Provide interpretation and application of Pitt HR policies and practices.
Individual will be part of the SCI-facilities team and is responsible for monitoring and reporting day-to-day facilities repairs, maintenance, and issues for our school buildings. Position will also assist in various school related administrative functions including answering inquiries, scheduling meetings, and assisting with school-wide events and initiatives. Works independently and has minimal supervision while receiving general direction from the Manager of Personnel and Administration.
Supports human resources by assisting in the hiring process; processes payroll related transactions; updates and maintains files, records, and databases; and assists in various administrative functions.
Excellent typing and analytical skills, high aptitude, excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills. Must be able to work on multiple projects with varying deadlines and ability to work through frequent interruptions.
Long periods working at a desk while reading and creating documents on a computer. Significant mental concentration analyzing problems, calculating salary data, finding and interpreting policies, procedures, and reports. It is sometimes necessary to assist with arrange rooms for special events, e.g. Board of Visitors, New Student Orientations, Colloquiums, Graduations, etc. Carrying boxes of materials, easels, supplies, etc. to meetings.
