State of Wisconsin is Hiring a Human Resources Supervisor Near Madison, WI

Introduction

Join our team as a Human Resources Supervisor with the Division of Personnel Management for the State of Wisconsin. This position will lead a team of Human Resources (HR) staff responsible for staffing activities for the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) and Department of Revenue (DOR).

This position is located at the Wisconsin Revenue Building, situated conveniently off the Beltline just five minutes from Downtown Madison. We offer an excellent work life balance and a team-oriented atmosphere. This includes the flexibility of a hybrid office remote work schedule with the option to work remotely up to 4 days per week. This schedule may vary based on training or operational need.

Position Summary

The position is responsible for providing expertise and leadership in the management and coordination of recruitments and position vacancies and continuous communication with HR management and Agency-leadership on status of vacancies and initiatives. Major goals of this position include supervising a team of HR staff performing recruitment and staffing activities, providing supervisory and staff training, coordinating position classification/job titling, compensation, staffing, and implementing HR procedures for DVA and DOR.

This position will serve as a liaison to the HR Supervisors located at the two DVA Veteran Homes, employment relations staff, medical coordinators, equity and inclusion specialists and the payroll unit.

Salary Information

The starting pay is between $40.00 - $43.36 (approximately between $83,200 and $90,100 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. The position is in pay schedule and range 81-03.

Pay for current or former state employees is based on the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan for the applicable transaction.

Job Details

  • A 12-month probationary period is required.
  • This position will work Monday - Friday with daytime hours. Occasional in-state travel may be required. Employees must have access to both a private workspace and secure high-speed internet for remote work option.
  • Candidates who may be appointed to this position will be subject to a background check including fingerprints and a tax compliance check.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship). The Department of Administration does not sponsor work or student visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

Qualifications

At a minimum, you’ll need the following:

  • Leadership experience performing duties such as coaching, guiding, or training others, providing performance feedback, etc.
  • Experience in a professional human resources role performing full-cycle staffing related activities (e.g., developing job announcements, developing applicant screening tools and interview questions, completing selection activities, etc.).
  • Experience performing compensation and classification/job titling related activities (e.g., job analyses and audits, developing position descriptions, market pay/wage analysis, making pay determinations, providing compensation recommendations, reassignments, reclassifications/reallocations, etc.).

It’d be great if you also have at least one of the following:

  • Formal supervisory experience.
  • Experience using a Human Resources Information System (HRIS) performing tasks such as hiring candidates, posting job announcements, running queries/reports, searching and entering data, etc.
  • Experience with making recommendations to improve policies or processes.
  • Experience with state of Wisconsin civil service rules and policies related to staffing, classification and compensation.
