About the Role

The Human Resources Generalist performs duties at the professional level and is responsible for employee relations, training administration, recruiting, on-boarding, and compliance with state and federal employment law. This position requires an extremely perceptive person, who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the organization. The Human Resources Generalist must be sensitive to corporate needs, employee goodwill, and overall business needs.

What you’ll do:

  • Maintain compliance with appropriate Alaska and Federal employment laws.
  • Complete recruiting and selection procedures. Coordinate efforts including assisting with sourcing, initial screening, and interviews.
  • Coach and counsel supervisors regarding employee relations issues.
  • Responsible for conducting internal investigations. Represent companies at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
  • Maintain employee files.
  • Coordinate internal and external training programs. Conduct training programs as appropriate to include orientation and harassment awareness training for all staff, and train management in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety and legal compliance.
  • Provide employee reports for various business needs upon request.
  • Produce and distribute employee communications regarding benefits packages including enrollment deadlines, company programs, and other related messages.
  • Participates in developing department budgets, goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Contracts with outside suppliers to provide employee services such as transportation, relocation services, charitable events, blood donation, or flu shots.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position consists of complex work situations with frequent variations. Minimal standard procedures govern the work, although incumbent will contribute significantly to the development of these procedures/practices.

You have these skills:

  • Communication skills are necessary as the position interacts with managers, employees, vendors, and/or suppliers via telephone, electronically or in person. Contacts may contain confidential information, necessitating discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of people in person, by telephone or electronically.
  • General office skills including telephone and computer skills including Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and payroll or HR systems (preferably Workday).
  • Solid judgment and decision-making including work with confidential information.
  • Basic math, analysis, and research skills.
  • Knowledge of transportation industry and standards helpful.
  • Willingness to stay current with employment regulations.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to focus on detailed work.

And these qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Three to five years of Human Resources experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Extra credit if you have:

  • Successful completion of the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to sit for long stretches including long periods of telephone and/or computer work. Ability to use the arms, hands and fingers for keyboarding, filing, using the phone and other general office work. Able to see and read computer screens and documentation. Able to speak clearly.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a standard office environment during normal business hours. Requires some movement through and around a warehouse and loading dock. Some travel to/from Washington and Alaska may be required.

The annual salary range for this position in Washington is $61,200 - $83,280. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
