About the Role

The Linehaul Dispatch/Supervisor position aims to centralize and streamline the management of linehaul operations, improve trailer planning and dispatching, enhance coordination of barge loads, and optimize coordination with external carriers.

This position manages Linehaul Drivers and will be responsible for and participate in:

  • Recruitment
  • Termination
  • Performance Management and Corrective Actions
  • Scheduling
  • Approval of time off
  • Time management
  • Training, Observations & Feedback

What you’ll do:

  • Manage the linehaul driver team, including monitoring hours of service (HOS), paid time off (PTO), and accurately processing mileage paysheets.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to linehaul driver pay and time off pay; maintain documents related to mileage rate, hook & gas rate, and update PTO rate annually.
  • Plan and dispatch trailers to outlying terminals (Fairbanks, Kenai, Wasilla) for on time delivery of goods.
  • Handle trailer requests for linehaul, flatbed, and direct loads from the port to Span ASC.
  • Coordinate and dispatch all Alaska Marine Lines (AML) and Samson barge loads from docking to delivery, including accurate detention billing.
  • Coordinate and dispatch connecting line loads with other carriers to outlining service areas (Mt view trucking, last mile, Portage Transport, CAT, etc.)
  • Take after hours phone calls related to Linehaul and address last minute changes as needed.
  • Interact with customers both over the phone and in person.
  • Update shipment tracking system when needed and help maintain timely data integrity.
  • Process paperwork related to freight.
  • Assist in the warehouse and yard when needed.
  • Assist with Yard Control when necessary.
  • Assist with the pickup and delivery of local freight if necessary.
  • Provide relief for receiving if necessary.
  • Assist with the loading and/or unloading of vehicles, trailers, or containers if necessary.
  • Move freight within yard or warehouse, using forklift or other equipment as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

You have these skills:

  • Good communication skills are a necessity as the position has requires a certain amount of interaction with customers, vendors, contractors, and/or suppliers. Contacts are typically via telephone and walk-in pick-ups. Communication is occasionally confidential in nature.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to read schedules, maps, hazardous materials documents, and other paperwork.
  • Must exercise good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to focus, prioritize, and organize.
  • Must be continuously conscientious of safety processes and procedures.
  • Ability to use radio and telephone.
  • Knowledge of dispatch helpful.
  • Knowledge of good lifting techniques.
  • Knowledge of warehouse safety.

And these qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Hazardous Materials Certification.
  • Forklift Certification.

Extra credit if you have:

  • Higher education/vocational training.
  • Valid Class A CDL license and clean driving record.
  • 2 years of Transportation, Freight, or Logistics experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to operate all equipment related to dispatch which may include grasping, bending, handling, reaching, fingering, feeling/touching and repetitive motions of the hands and arms.

Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment; however, it may also involve being outside in the elements or in a company vehicle.
  • Exposures to exhaust fumes are likely.
  • Overtime may be mandatory when needed.
  • Conditions may also include exposure to environmental noise.
