About the Role

The Safety Coordinator’s role includes the support of written safety programs, procedures, and requirements of the organization. People at all levels of the company are dependent on these efforts to ensure the best safety practices are applied to safety policies and procedures. This position also provides administrative support on tasks assigned in conjunction to the Alaska based terminals for such areas as Operations, & Human Resources. In addition to typing, filing, and reporting, performs duties such as driver, safety, and terminal support related administrative duties that includes contact with highly confidential and sensitive information. Coordinates with a diverse group of external callers and visitors as well as internal contacts at all levels of the organization. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diverse workload and recommend changes in practices or procedures.

This is a full-time position and is not supervisory in nature.

What you’ll do: (this list is not all inclusive, nor may all duties be completed by all within this job title)

  • Develops and coordinates efforts to implement a comprehensive Safety program company wide.
  • Coordinates efforts to comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Implements and ensures company procedures and standards relating to safety, and safety record keeping.
  • Establishes and coordinates safety committee in all locations.
  • Coordinates efforts at each facility to update SDS’s (MSDS) annually.
  • Develops and coordinates monthly safety topics at each facility.
  • Conducts safety training at local terminals and train employees to train at outlying terminals to include but not limited to; Safety awareness for new hires, forklift, and PPE.
  • Creates and organizes quarterly safety recognition program.
  • Authors and distributes monthly safety topics.
  • Attends and participates in weekly safety meetings.
  • Participates in incident investigation as needed.
  • Develops, updates, and distributes weekly Safety tracker data.
  • Develops and implements a Safety and compliance audit in Q4.
  • OSHA 300 Logs/Certifications
  • Assists with workers compensation claims.
  • Works on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects. This may include: planning and scheduling multiple presentations, disseminating information, reporting on weekly information, and correctly directing individuals to appropriate parties.
  • Types and designs general correspondences, memos, charts, tables, graphs, etc. Proofreads copy for spelling, grammar, and layout, making appropriate changes.
  • Updating and maintaining drivers’ files
  • Assisting with additional special projects for human resources and operations as needed
  • Ensures accident file contents are accurate and complete.
  • Conducts annual DOT Compliance Audit
  • Provides regular CSA, RIR and preventable collision statistics.

And these qualifications:

  • High School diploma required.
  • Current and continuing knowledge of Federal, State and Local Safety Regulations.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in safety and/or administrative duties required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit for extended period of time using computer.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to safely work on the warehouse floor as necessary.

Work Environment:

  • Work is typically performed in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Extensive phone work.

The hourly range for this position in Washington is $ $20.87 - $27.07. The hourly rate will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
