Municipality of Anchorage is Hiring a SAFETY COORDINATOR - Range 16 / NON Near Anchorage, AK

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.
DEPARTMENT: Office of the Municipal Manager
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
LOCATION: 632 West 6th Ave.

Under general direction of the Occupational Safety and Health Director, assists in the responsibly for the development, administration and implementation of the department health and safety program, MOA-wide. Provide recommendations regarding safety codes, rules and practices and guidance on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards to municipal departments. Conduct inspections of the occupational safety and health compliance system and conduct/ direct internal investigation of occupational safety and health issues or complaints. Monitor and update Safety Management Suite software, website, and health and safety policies, procedures and safety toolbox information. Present reports regarding occupational safety and health compliance progress and other duties as assigned. This person will work collaboratively with other safety coordinators, department directors, managers, and department trainers to identify safety training needs and to report performance levels of OSHA compliance. Must be able to lift / carry 50 lbs., work at heights, bending, twisting, climbing, pushing, pulling, and crawling are all part of regular duties. Perform other related duties as assigned.
 Master’s degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Studies or a discipline related to occupational health and safety and two (2) years of experience in safety engineering, industrial health and safety, or a related field. 
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Studies or a discipline related to occupational health and safety and four (4)years of experience in safety engineering, industrial health and safety, or a related field.

OR

Associate’s degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Studies or a discipline related to occupational health and safety and six (6) years of experience in safety engineering, industrial health and safety, or a related field.

Must possess the following:

  • A valid State of Alaska driver’s license at time of hire.

  • American Red Cross First Aid Certification, and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification within 90 days of hire.

  • American Red Cross or American Heart Organization Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification or equivalent within 90 days of hire.

Preferences:

  • General/Industry construction Industry 

  • Heavy Equipment Experience a plus

  • OSHA 10/30 Train the Trainer Certification

  • OSHA 300 log documentation

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.

All required licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference:
 Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
