Administrative Assistant, Leasing (With $3,000 New Hire Payment!)

About NRHA Founded in 1940, the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) provides low-income families in Norfolk, Virginia with safe and well-maintained housing. It also plans and administers large-scale residential redevelopment programs within Norfolk.

NRHA is an award-winning public housing authority and is designated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and has been especially effective in obtaining private investment partners to fund new neighborhoods; improving low-income public housing; planning and building mixed-income communities; and offering programs that support residents receiving rental assistance on their path to self-sufficiency. NRHA aims to create and apply meaningful housing and neighborhood development programs to serve all residents of Norfolk, Virginia.

About the Position NRHA seeks qualified candidates for the position of Administrative Assistant for the public housing communities of Young Terrace located at 816 Whitaker Lane in Norfolk, Virginia. This role performs receptionist and administrative support duties on behalf of an assigned public housing community, interacting with residents, calculating rent amounts, processing work orders; data entry, and assuring proper processing of tenants.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Greeting office visitors
  • Responding to telephone calls, especially resident inquiries.
  • Meeting with new residents, preparing forms, and explaining standard community policies and procedures.
  • Calculating rent amounts and recalculate rents when a resident has a change in income.
  • Entering resident and work order data into computer databases.
  • Processing vacating residents.
  • Creating, maintaining, and updating resident files.
  • Monitoring work to assure that the community complies with federal, state, and local housing regulations.
  • Maintaining a professional image and serve as a representative of NRHA.

The ideal candidate for this job will have:

  • Vocational/Technical School education in Secretarial Science or a related field.
  • Three to five years of administrative/secretarial/clerical support experience.
  • Knowledge of public housing policies, programs, procedures, and practices.

Candidates with prior public housing and rent calculation experience will be preferred.

NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and/or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate that he/she has obtained the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job.

NRHA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The hiring pay range for this job classification is from $37,440.00 per year to $46,696.00 per year. The candidate's compensation offer will be determined by the candidate's work history and skill sets. Benefits include VRS retirement; medical, dental, and vision insurance; life insurance; short- and long-term disability insurance; tuition reimbursement options; public service loan forgiveness; and much more.

NRHA offers a total of $3,000 in new hire payments to new hires in this position. A 90-day employment period is required to qualify for the full payment amount.
