Grounds Maintenance Aide - Young Terrace (Full-Time)

About the Position NRHA seeks qualified candidates for the position of full-time Grounds Maintenance Aide at our Young Terrace community. Performs basic, routine grounds maintenance duties as directed, including but not limited to: operating grass mower to cut grounds; operating edger to edge sidewalks and curbs; trimming bushes and shrubbery; preparing areas for planting of grass, bushes, shrubbery, and trees; and seeding, planting, fertilizing, and watering grounds and plants.

Key Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Removing and disposing of trash, debris, weeds, and grass clippings.
  • Performing routine maintenance of grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Cleaning and storing tools and equipment.
  • Fueling equipment and removing, sharpening, and replacing grass mower blades.
  • Assisting other grounds maintenance staff in performing grounds maintenance activities.
  • Performing other routine and non-complex general maintenance activities as directed.
  • Performing other related duties as required.

About the Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Some high school education necessary to perform basic reading and mathematical operations.
  • A minimum of one year grounds maintenance experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience necessary to obtain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

The candidate is expected to possess:

  • Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance practices.
  • Basic knowledge of safety procedures to be followed in grounds maintenance.
  • Literacy and arithmetical skills to read simple instructions and directions.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Skill in operating or ability to be trained in operating standard grass mowers, edgers, and related grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Basic oral and written communication skills to receive instructions and convey routine information.
  • Basic human relations skills to interact with supervisor, lead person, and housing residents; includes skill in working in a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in performing routine and non-complex work assignments.

NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and/or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate that he/she has obtained the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job.

NRHA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The candidate's compensation is based on their pay history, skills, and market factors. The pay rate for this position is $18.00 an hour, or $37,440.00 annualized. The benefits package includes VRS retirement; medical, dental, and vision insurance; life insurance; short- and long-term disability insurance; tuition reimbursement options; public service loan forgiveness; and much more!

This position qualifies for a$3,000 new hire payment paid in two installments.
