Position Description

The Senior Manager, Human Resources will oversee all aspects of the Human Resources function responsible for global staff in the US, Canada and the UK. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, benefits management and payroll support, compliance, talent acquisition and onboarding, performance management and training, and employee relations. The Senior Manager will administer policies relating to all phases of human resources activity, be responsible for cultivating a collaborative and inspiring work environment and represent HR in ILPA’s interactions with external and internal stakeholders.

The individual will operate under the guiding principles of excellence, consistency, and empathy to strengthen the ability of the organization’s leaders and employees to deliver on our mission to serve members. Critical to this role is the ability to collaborate cross functionally, to flex in applying business knowledge to strategic priorities as they evolve over time, and to effectively balance competing priorities.

Roles and Responsibilities

Global Compensation and Benefits Execution

  • Lead and administer global benefits program, ensuring parity of offerings across all ILPA offices
  • Identify opportunities for enhancement around benefits plan design and offerings
  • Manage all broker relations and track monthly invoices for accuracy
  • Ensure adherence to benefits related regulations, such as COBRA, HIPAA, PIPEDA, ERISA, ESA
  • Manage personnel benefit actions (new hires, offboarding, qualifying life events)Support maintenance of HRIS and payroll systems; ensure data integrity related to personnel changes; manage system access and provide training and support to end users
  • Ensure ILPA’s compensation structure is being applied consistently and equitably regardless of position, activity area or physical location
  • Conduct market benchmarking reviews (at minimum every three years) and update compensation structure as necessary, including periodic reviews and updates of position descriptions
  • Support compensation placement and equity among band cohorts and ensure equity (where appropriate) for all new recruiting efforts
  • Process employee transactions, including new hires, merit and salary increases, promotions, transfers, and separations

Performance Management

  • Curate all performance management processes, including goal setting, performance evaluations, development planning, and short-term incentive methodology for all job levels
  • Define, introduce, and manage annual 360 review process
  • Provide guidance and coaching to managers and employees on performance improvement strategies and career development opportunities
  • Ensure a close connection between ILPA organizational goals, objectives, and core values and the individual objectives and development plans for employees
  • Foster candid and constructive performance conversation between managers and employees
  • Manage an effective year-end performance evaluation process across the organization that is clear, consistent and delivers outcomes in which employees can have confidence

Employee Relations

  • Proactively reach out to employees to build relationships and strong two-way communications
  • Carefully listen to, assess, and help resolve employee concerns brought to HR’s attention
  • Keep CEO and General Counsel abreast as needed on all urgent or critical employee matters
  • Conduct investigations into employee relations issues and recommend appropriate resolutions
  • Applying high emotional intelligence, identify potential issues that may not be brought to HR’s attention directly

Talent Acquisition

  • Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and develop recruitment strategies to attract top talent
  • Lead the full-cycle recruitment process, including job posting, candidate screening, interviewing, and offer negotiation, ensuring a high-quality candidate experience at all stages of the process
  • Manage all recruitment collateral in partnership with ILPA’s Communications team to ensure messaging accuracy and effectiveness
  • Manage and leverage recruiting technology (LinkedIn Recruiter, Clear Company) to enhance business results, provide scalability, and ensure timeliness and consistency

Policies and Procedures

  • Implement, or develop as needed, HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements and company standards
  • Maintain accurate HR records and documentation, including personnel files and HR systems
  • Coordinate and facilitate new employee orientation and onboarding activities to ensure a seamless transition for new hires
  • Coordinate and facilitate training sessions on various HR-related topics, compliance requirements, and professional development initiatives
  • Oversee compliance-based audits and work cross functionally to complete

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources (Master’s in Human Resource Management preferred)
  • PHR or SPHR certification is preferred
  • 7-10 years of progressive HR experience
  • A strong understanding of HR fundamentals and compliance
  • Excellent project management skills in defining scope, schedules, and resources to ensure consistent quality
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, complex environment
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential data with integrity
  • Record of working in an inclusive manner with geographically distributed teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Hands-on leader with desire and proven ability to promote a strong company culture that supports high-growth and employee retention
  • Ability to facilitate interactions and resolve conflicts
  • High emotional intelligence with excellent relationship management skills and the ability to influence across all functions and levels of the organization
