Description

Gaston Social Services: Protecting, caring for and empowering children and adults who are temporarily or permanently unable to care for themselves through the administrating of federal, state and county programs focused on improving the well-being of our citizens.

The goal of the Gaston County Human Services Center and Division of Social Services is to foster an agency which is professionally responsive to our citizens' needs through daily caring outreach and simultaneously serve as an advocate for those in need. We strive to be community-minded and community-spirited. We abide by federal, state and county operating instructions in providing services and we assist welfare recipients in attaining self-sufficiency.

Examples of Duties

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.

  • Provides administrative support to program administrator and section staff including but not limited to coordinating travel/training, making purchases for programs, providing Notary Public services, maintaining training log, maintaining/ disseminating after hours schedules, maintaining speakwrite user group, and maintaining cell phone and iPad assignments.
  • Manages section assigned vehicles by maintaining and monitoring vehicle reservations, tracking mileage on all cars, scheduling service/repairs on vehicles in timely manner (includes getting cars to and from garage), providing vehicle tracking when requested, and resolving vehicle availability issues.
  • Maintains statistical reports for section administrator related to program(s) performance in the areas of APS recidivism, APS days to initiate/complete, general administrative time reported, Office of Inspector General exclusions, county vehicle and speeding occurrences/accidents/incidents.
  • Provides administrative support for Adult Care Centers including preparing enrollment packages, creating monthly newsletter, preparing and submitting state and HCCBG billing, and processing and tracking payables.
  • Serves as clerk to Council on Aging and HCCBG committee and ensures Clerk to the Board of Commissioners’ requirements are met. Coordinates meetings, attends meetings, prepares minutes, maintains member roster and participation, prepares and disseminates meeting notices, assists in preparation of meeting material, and other tasks as need.
  • Assists section coordinators and supervisors with new hire process in a confidential manner by participating in interviews; checking candidates' references; completing IT service requests to set up new hires/transfers, temps, and interns; and maintaining and conducting section orientation for new hires/transfers, temps, and interns.
  • Provides back up to Administrative Assistant to DSS Director, Assistant Director, and Special Projects Manager. Special projects as assigned by administrator.
  • Coordinate and complete annual file purging process.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation with an Associates Degree and one (1) year of experience in customer service or as an administrative assistant; or a graduation with a high school diploma or GED equivalency with three (3) years of experience as an administrative assistant required.

A combination of education and experience will be considered.

A valid driver's license is required.

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. Must have exceptional customer service skills, professional demeanor including telephone etiquette, verbal and writing skills and work well with others. Must be able to lift 10 lbs.

Additional Information

Minimally qualified applicants will start at 25% of the salary range: $21.55/hr

The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment
