North Carolina Dept of Military and Veteran Affairs is Hiring an Administrative Specialist I Near UNKNOWN, NC

Description of Work

*Salary Grade NC08 - Recruitment Range $36,682 - 39,520*

The Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery conducts burials for veterans and spouses per Federal and State Regulations/Guidelines. The Administrative Specialist I performs a variety of tasks in support of the NC State Veterans Cemeteries Program. Position will greet visitors, clients and family members, and provide benefit information of routine nature or make appropriate referrals for assistance. This position composes/formats letters, reports, and records; establishes paper and electronic files for said correspondence. Duties include using a computer to create and update records, type reports, spreadsheets, develop and maintain data reports, and ability to use the internet for research. This position will prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, maintain inventory of office supplies and materials, and process incoming and outgoing mail. Work requires knowledge and use of office equipment – fax machine, copier, scanner, computer, document shredder and daily use of a multi-line telephone. Work also includes daily public contact both in person, telephonic and email. Employee will be sole administrative support for this facility; therefore, must be independent worker capable of making routine decisions and referrals without supervision. Position is located in Black Mountain, NC (Buncombe County).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Significant knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports and other materials.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgement, courtesy and tact when dealing with sensitive issues.
  • Ability to apply federal and state rules and policies as they relate to veteran’s benefits.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
