Description
It is an exciting time to be in the marine business and Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) is seeking a qualified mid or senior level Project Manager to join its team of professionals. The candidate who fills this role will lead project teams in the development of the modification and support of new commercial vessels, and modification and support of existing vessels. This individual may also provide leadership in project management practices and standards development. There will be travel for client meetings and inspections aboard ships and in shipyards. Our team-based approach empowers staff to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary group. You will be working closely with a team of experienced naval architects, marine engineers, electrical engineers, marine designers, and project managers. You will also have the opportunity to manage relationships with existing clients as well as actively pursue new opportunities with potential clients.
Position duties include:
  • Develops plans and proposals for complex projects in accordance with company policies and industry practices to reduce risk and ensure successful outcomes without direct supervision.
  • Serves as Project Manager for projects up to and including major project teams to ensure project success and client satisfaction.
  • Autonomously sets up workable execution schedules for projects and couples them with the use of a detailed scheduling tool to monitor and control projects.
  • Forecasts project financial and schedule performance and creates and implements recovery plans as needed. Regularly interacts with accounting to discuss project financials.
  • Ensures that appropriate metrics are in place and that profitability drivers are monitored and communicated.
  • Monitors current business trends for the company and key markets.
  • Ensures comprehensive forecasts are maintained. Participates in maintaining those forecasts at the organization/market level.
  • Is accessible and responsive to clients and customers.
  • Actively participates in cross-functional projects and is comfortable with constructive feedback.
Work will primarily be performed in a home office, performed in a five-day work week, with travel for client and project meetings. Must have the physical ability to go onboard marine vessels to perform ship inspections.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years' experience with a combination of Marine Project Management, engineering, or similar industry experience is preferred.
  • Five or more years of direct Project Management experience in commercial design, operation, or construction.
  • Bachelor's degree in Project Management, engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Minimum education of high school diploma.
  • Experience managing the full lifecycles of projects from proposal to closure, including developing detailed proposals/change requests, budgets, and schedules.
  • Experience negotiating engineering and contractual issues.
Preferred candidates will have the following:
  • Proficiency with MS Office software including MS Project.
  • CAPM or PMP certification.
  • Experience managing a technical team for completion of a complex vessel design from initial concept through detailed design for production.
  • Thorough familiarity with SOLAS, USCG-inspected vessel regulations and ABS/DNV class rules.
  • Experience supporting common shipyard activities such as dry dockings, repairs, stability tests and vessel inspections.
  • Experience with large ferries, fishing vessels, tugs, and passenger vessel design
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.A. is a requirement. No second party referrals or contact, please. EBDG has a zero-tolerance policy regarding drug use.
