SUPERINTENDENT
REPORTS TO: Board of Education
SUPERVISES: All personnel of the school district
POSITION OBJECTIVE: At Ironwood Area Schools, students will be provided a core academic foundation, opportunities for personal growth and tools for success in a safe and inclusive setting. In order to fulfill this mission, the Superintendent must maintain an effective learning climate, establish educational goals, and prioritize expenditures to support them.
POSITION STATUS: Full Time, Full Year
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master’s Degree in Education-related field preferred
Licensure: Michigan Administrator’s License with Central Office Endorsement or able to acquire
Experience: Three (3) yearsadministrative experience preferred, three (3) years teaching experience required

DUTIES:
The Superintendent is responsible for all communication within the district to include: public relations, newsletters, personal appearances, community liaison, child advocate, internal and external communication (laws, policies, quality issues, elections, annual reports, mandates, etc), student/parent involvement, Parent Advisory Committee, Board meetings, transportation, student achievement, collaboration with other agencies (Child Protective Services, Department of Social Services, Public Safety, etc).
The Superintendent is responsible for completion of all fiscalfinancial items to include: payroll, budgets (hearings, revisions), taxes and tax appeals, bonds and millages, borrowed monies, investments, bills, resource allocations, audits (compliance, single audit, funding, and payroll).
The Superintendent is responsible for all personnel items to include: negotiations, evaluations, accountability, staffing (hiring, firing, transfers), substitutes, resources, professional development, regulations (credentials, certification requirements, criminal record check), directory, personnel files and records, supervision, vacation/sick/other time off (paid and unpaid), workers’ compensation, and unemployment compensation.
The Superintendent is responsible for the administration of the district to include: implementation of Strategic Plan, transportation, food service, Board policy and Administrative Guidelines, supervision of direct reports, extra-curricular activities, compliance to State/Federal mandates, property transfers, supervision, insurance programs, meetings, decision making, evaluation, maintenance, elections, construction. He/she will be called upon occasionally to be a facilitator, mediator, and/or moderator.
The Superintendent is responsible for all items related to curriculum to include: testing, disaggregation, test data, reporting of test results, school to work transition, alignment and development, implementation and reinforcement, State/Federal mandates and student achievement, in-services, being an instructional leader, teaching, and setting/measuring goals.
The Superintendent shall delegate duties which the Board has entrusted to him/her, but in every instance, he/she shall continue to be responsible to the Board for the execution of the powers and duties delegated.
The Superintendent performs other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is continuously interacting with the public, staff and students. The employee frequently must meet multiple demands from several people. Occasionally the employee must use hand/grip strength to operate office equipment. Ability to withstand long term use of video display terminals is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is required to regularly interact with the students, staff and the public.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Time, Full Year per contract
SALARY RANGE: Determined by contract, $100,000-$110,000
START DATE: July 1, 2024
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the District procedures on evaluation.
