ABOUT KUOW
KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio is Seattle’s NPR news station. We are an independent, nonprofit news organization producing award-winning journalism, podcasts, and events in service to the 3.9 million people in our coverage area. As a self-sustaining service of the University of Washington, our mission is to create and serve a more informed public.
KUOW has an excellent opportunity for aDirector of Finance and Administrationto join our team. This critical role will oversee all financial activities and functions, working closely with the President/GM and reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. This position leads a team of professionals to ensure KUOW operates efficiently and effectively, supporting our mission to create and serve a more informed public in the region.
BASIC FUNCTION
Directs all KUOW financial activities, as well as topline administrative activities related to personnel, and for the general operation. Assists senior executives in aligning strategic priorities with budget investment, and oversight and management of KUOW.
Responsible for organization's financial management systems including banking, budget and general accounting functions; provides support and coordination for the annual audit and other financial reports as required by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the IRS and other entities; creates reports for the PSPR Board Finance/Audit Committee. Provides financial support to operational managers within KUOW and Board of Directors and acts as liaison to UW financial and HR services.
Directly supervises the Assistant Director of Finance and the Finance and Administration Project Manager.
• The Assistant Director of Finance supervises staff of 2 classified individuals responsible for accounts payable and receivables functions as well as assisting with month-end close operations and budgeting.
• The Project Manager is responsible for developing and managing administrative processes which support the department's general functions and special projects and for assisting regular financial and administrative functions.
Oversees personnel support systems including new employee orientation and oversight of employee handbook in conjunction with UW policies and procedures.
Prepares and coordinates other periodic reports required by the University and by outside agencies including CPB, and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Assists the President/GM, Chief Operating Officer, and Executive Team in the following: budget development, revenue projections, organizational assessments, and strategic planning.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial
• Develops processes and coordinates operational and capital budgets; co-presents with the President & GM annual operating budget requests to the PSPR committees and board
• Determines systems for tracking financial activity including conversion to new accounting systems or components when necessary
• Oversees accounts payable and payroll in conjunction with Assistant Director of Finance
Personnel
• Coordinates all processes for hiring, onboarding and payroll initiation and administration; provides overview of benefits and acclimation to UW and KUOW policies
• Oversees all liaison work with UW for all personnel issues including new postings, hiring, HR, and compensation adjustments.
General Administrative
• Ensures training on payroll/time tracking systems
• Assists the Chief Operating Officer, and President & GM with interdepartmental coordinative activities; provides the COO, and President & GM with assessment and oversight of the financial/logistical aspects of major projects; assists with project management.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
The Finance and Administration Project Manager and Assistant Director of Finance.
Requirements include:
• A bachelor's degree and 5 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience with background in non-profit administration and financial management.
• Experienced in personnel management and supervision, preferably in an institutional environment.
• Strong management and supervisory skills are required, with excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral.
• Commitment to diversity and racial equity.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
