Description:

The Medical Education Program Coordinator assists the General Surgery Residency Program Director with education, processing valid licensures, and preparation of graduation requirements for the residents. This position will coordinate all aspects of surgical training via interactions with the Program Director, the Graduate Medical Education office, and official accrediting bodies as necessary.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the residency selection process inclosing: reviewing applications, maintaining contact with_x000d_ applicants regarding application status, arrange and schedule interviews, complete contract for selected_x000d_ residents and process new resident paperwork.
  • Act as departmental liaison distributing new and continuing resident agreements.
  • Organize all aspects new resident orientation.
  • Assist residents with administrative functions including organizing, printing and distributing rotation schedules and weekly educational conference schedules.
  • Arrange the annual ABSITE examination including ordering of tests, procuring room for administering test, and proctoring.
  • Complete residency training certifications for the American Board of Surgery.
  • Prepare letters of recommendation and complete requests from other hospitals or programs for training_x000d_ verification.
  • Process reimbursement requests from residents and maintain records of educational expenditures.
  • Maintain attendance records for residency program and attendance at educational conferences.
  • Maintain and coordinate resident evaluations including data base formatting and collating for use at resident_x000d_ Assessment Conferences.
  • Monitor case logs for residents on an ongoing basis.
  • Assure that residents complete Graduate Medical Education Requirements in Learning and Core Competency_x000d_ modules.
  • Document records to ensure residents completed ATLS, ACLS and FLS as required by the American Board of_x000d_ Surgery.
  • Maintain accreditation data, complete GME related surveys and ensure accuracy of data prior to submission to achieve ACGME compliance.
  • Arrange site visits as necessary.
  • Function as assistant to the Department Residency Advisory Committee.
  • Participate in the annual multi-institutional mock oral examinations, by working closely with the Program_x000d_ Director to coordinate faculty and resident participation.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Any one or combination totaling four (4) years (48 months), from the categories below:

A. College coursework in medical education, education, communications, public relations, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:

  • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
  • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
  • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
  • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)

B. Progressively more responsible clerical or secretarial experience, including a background in electronic word processing and database management systems

3. Work experience totaling one (1) year (12 months) comparable to that gained at the Medical Education Program Specialist level or similar experience within a medical education program.
