Turnaround Management Association (TMA) is searching for an experienced Operations professional who would work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and leadership team in overseeing day-to-day operations for the organization including Human Resources oversight. The qualified individual will support TMA in achieving its overall business strategy and goals. Additionally, the person would possess a strong business acumen, leadership abilities, project management, strong work ethic and problem-solving skills to help drive results.

Who is TMA?

Turnaround Management Association (TMA) (not-for-profit) is the most professionally diverse organization in the corporate restructuring, renewal, and corporate health space. We are a community of professionals who work with companies to improve performance, manage disruption, restructure, and work through insolvency, preserve equity, and drive significantly improved results. Established in 1988 and located in downtown Chicago on Wacker Drive, TMA has nearly 10,000 members in 54 chapters worldwide, including 35 North American chapters. Members include turnaround practitioners, attorneys, accountants, advisors, liquidators, consultants, as well as academic, government employees, and members of the judiciary. TMA provides members the opportunity to network and attend educational sessions to hone skills and expand their contacts. What is the Opportunity?

Under the leadership of the CEO, the position is responsible for TMA's overall business and human resources operations working collaboratively with leadership to ensure TMA company goals are on track and providing any support/assistance where needed. More specifically they would be responsible for the following:

  • Enhances business through operational processes/procedures, employee and staff capabilities, and financial performance.
  • Designs and implements business strategies, plans and procedures collaborating with the leadership team. Contributes to the development and integration of new processes as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with Senior Director of Finance regarding any budgeting, accounting, HR/payroll record keeping and reporting.
  • Manages any employee relation activities including Process Improvement plans, coaching, steps of discipline and termination. Works with outside counsel as necessary.
  • Works closely with Senior Director of Finance to ensure that all programs are meeting financial goals. Reviews costs, budget, operating policies, trends, and increased profit opportunities. Analyze revenue, profit and cash flow opportunities for the business and recommend actions.
  • Provides oversight for overall human resources activities including recruitment, employee development, safety, quality, efficiency expectations and ensures leadership is soliciting team member feedback enabling an empowered, continuous improvement culture.
  • Manages relationships with vendors, managing IT, Phone, building and offices operations and space-related matters.
  • Provides support for board and committee meetings, attend meetings as needed.
  • Communicates and explains new directives, policies, for major changes, meets with entire staff to explain changes, answers questions and maintain morale.
  • Implements employee engagement initiatives by collaborating with CEO and leadership team to foster a positive work culture. This includes coordinating any training to motivate staff for success, promotes team building, creates professional and technical skill development, and establishes and maintains effective working relationships.
  • Acts as resource and mentor to leadership and team members.
  • Sets a high standard for personal and leadership professionalism.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned or as needed.

Job Location: Flexible hybrid work arrangement with three days in the office (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) and other days virtual.

  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for out-of-state candidates.

TMA requires employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as defined by the CDC unless a religious or medical exemption is granted.

What qualifications are needed?

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree is a plus.
  • Five plus years in operations, management, business administration or related field.
  • Some knowledge of Human Resources processes and law.
  • Non-profit or association experience preferred.
  • Strong skills in budget development and oversight
  • Good decision-making and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact well with staff and leadership team including TMA membership.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, strong computer knowledge and database experience.
  • Ability to multi-task, execute, and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency in effective problem-solving.
  • Willingness to travel nationally (up to four times a year) to assist with TMA's events.
