About the Division
The Business Department goals are to teach students to communicate effectively, work as part of a team, and think critically. Our flexible business degrees and certificates can provide the student with a broad base of practical knowledge and the chance to apply it to real-world business experience. Our business students learn about all functional business areas including accounting, business law and ethics, marketing, management and information technology. Alongside the technical skills in which the student learns how business functions connect in today's complex global landscape, the student also develops the soft skills much sought after by employers such as communications, human relations, decision-making, problem solving, entrepreneur and leadership skills. The Business department is student-centric in its approach to help ensure our students graduate with job-ready skills or transfer to a university.
The Department continues to adapt and change in response to local community and global opportunities and is seeking instructors who are comfortable with taking the lead to innovate new approaches to student learning, using a wide array of cutting-edge technological teaching tools; are focused on student success; and can develop partnerships connecting communities and individuals.
An instructor for the business department will instruct students on:

About the Position
Pima Community College's Business Department is currently accepting applications to expand the pool of qualified faculty to teach Human Resources Management (HRS) courses for the 2024 - 25 academic year and beyond. Candidates may be hired and assigned to specific courses or may be included in a pool for potential future assignments based on enrollment, including non-credit offerings in the HR discipline, such as FastTrak, or SHRM certificate prep/alignment. Candidates with appropriate experience may be asked to teach other courses in the Business Department.
The position is available beginning the 2024-25 academic year as a nine-month contract. Faculty teach and work a set schedule over a nine-month academic year, August - May, that could include day, evening, and weekend duties.
Faculty may be asked to teach on multiple campuses and modalities (in-person, online, hybrid, and virtual). The Department may employ emerging approaches such as fast-track, IBEST and HS dual enrollment as appropriate. Course scheduling may include daytime, evenings, and/or weekends.
  • Priorities include candidates with interest and/or experience in teaching all levels of human resources, business or other innovations.

Duties and Responsibilities
General Duties:
  • Full-time faculty are expected to teach the equivalent of 15 load hours per semester
  • Facilitate learning and help students achieve academic success and retention
  • Evaluate and assess student performance
  • Provide academic advising
  • Monitor and continuously improve instruction to ensure Student Learning Outcomes are met on a classroom, discipline/program, and College level
  • Evaluate and revise course outlines and course materials
  • Maintain competency and currency in the teaching fields
  • Engage in professional development in current and emerging instructional approaches to engage new majority learners
  • Serve actively as a member of the department and discipline groups
  • Participate in fostering partnerships that strengthen educational opportunities in response to community needs
  • Represent the department and/or campus on college-wide committees
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students and utilize a collegial style in all forms of communication
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the resources available to students to assist them with academic and personal challenges, and ability to help students access those resources, skilled in providing academic advising

Job Requirements
Minimum qualifications requirements for faculty positions are governed by our faculty qualification standards. This position is in an occupational/workforce discipline and requires the following to obtain Pima Community College teaching certification:
  • Master's degree in the field of study and 1 year of work experience in a Human Resources role OR
  • Master's degree in any discipline and 2 years of work experience in a Human Resources role OR
  • Bachelor's degree in the field of study and 2 years of work experience in a Human Resources role OR
  • Bachelor's degree in any field and 3 years of work experience in a Human Resources role OR
  • Associate's degree in any field and 5 years of work experience in a Human Resources role OR
  • 64 semester credit hours in the field of study and 5 years of work experience in a Human Resources role OR
  • Industry-recognized certification in the field of study and 5 years of work experience in a Human Resources role OR
  • License in the field of study and 5 years of work experience in a Human Resources role.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching human resources courses in higher education

Applicants currently in progress for a degree or additional coursework to meet the minimum qualifications must have the degree conferred and/or coursework completed by May 2024.
A degree from any college outside of the United States (even if the transcript is in English) may need to be evaluated by a foreign transcript evaluation service. Pima Community College requires that applicants use an evaluation agency that is a member of NACES or AACRAO's corporate partners.
