Position Summary:The Produce Buyer will be responsible for sourcing and procuring the highest quality produce, at the best available price and quality to ensure availability of product at acceptable profitability.
What you'll do:Source and procure produce in sufficient quantity and quality to ensure availability;
Fulfill contract commitments by managing purchases within contract parameters;
Analyze sales and inventory data to produce accurate replenishment orders;
Make purchase decisions and manage process for order fulfillment;
Maintain and develop good relations within vendor community;
Evaluate the accuracy of system inventory comparing stock status to physical counts;
Minimize shrinkage/spoilage of fresh fruits and vegetables;
Provide market and availability information to Sales and Customer Service as required;
Communicate purchasing opportunities or potential market disruptions to management;
Support established logistical procedures to facilitate product arrival;
Maintain awareness of market trends, technology and food safety;
Help to maintain appropriate inventory levels at all DC’s as necessary;
Work with quality control and receivers to maintain the highest of quality standards;
Responsible for adhering to food security, food safety regulations and policies (SQF, HACCP, CGMPs)
Other related duties as assigned by supervisor
About you:2 years experience in buying or procurement, preferable in the produce industry
Demonstrated buying experience
- Strong negotiation skills
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to set priorities, resolve issues, and accomplish team objectives
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Solid computer knowledge and experience
- Ability to make objective, sound decisions and react quickly to ever-changing market conditions
